Anybody have anything they want to know?

Ask them about their incongruous album cover art. I enjoy the design aesthetic, but it seems to owe absolutely nothing to their music (which I quite like as well).

I'm interviewing Joey. I'm thinking of asking him about what kind of tree he would like to be if he were a tree. And what his influences are.

The cover design "issue" is good one.

Since they seem to have refined their music into what looks/hears like a definitive "shape", where are they going to go from here? Do they feel like they might have reached some kind of deadend? (I do) Hearing some remix-stuff that sometimes gives their music an extra edge, are they thinking of maybe including more "electronica"?

(x-post: what do you expect from the tree-question? have you done that before?)

willem (willem), Friday, 12 September 2003 07:11 (twenty-two years ago)

will they bring their Mariachi band and play at my wedding?

chris (chris), Friday, 12 September 2003 08:30 (twenty-two years ago)

ask them why they never released #'minas de cobre' on 7", on the 'spatial mix' of it on a b side to something .i'm too skanky to buy the album just for that tune, but i gotta have it!

the the cover art is pretty ropey. especially the typography.

Ask them how hey felt about the Giant Sand Beyond Nashville show at the Barbrican in 2001, where Polly Harvey, Kurt Wagner, Evan Dando, Vic Chesnutt and Mark Linkous all turned up to do a turn. You ususally only get tributes like that when you die. Be sure to mention also that John Convertino is the best drummer in the world.

I'm thinking of asking him about what kind of tree he would like to be if he were a tree.

Do trees really care about that sort of thing?

gazuga (gazuga), Friday, 12 September 2003 08:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Be sure to mention also that John Convertino is the best drummer in the world.

That is what I wanted to say.

Mooro (Mooro), Friday, 12 September 2003 08:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Is 'Calexico' a combination of California and Mexico?

mei (mei), Friday, 12 September 2003 11:37 (twenty-two years ago)

@mei: sort of. it's a village right on the border, it's called "Calexico" on the U.S. side and "Mexicali" on the Mexican side.

willem (willem), Friday, 12 September 2003 11:52 (twenty-two years ago)

and Bruce,if you really want to ask a tree-kinda question, maybe you should ask him about his cactus-preference. ;)

willem (willem), Friday, 12 September 2003 11:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I was just joking about the tree thing.

Bruce Urquhart (Bruce Urquhart), Friday, 12 September 2003 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Ask them if they wanna do an interview with me too.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 12 September 2003 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Ask them why they chose to cover "Alone Again Or".

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 12 September 2003 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Finished the interview. Went well. Asked some of the questions posed here.

Bruce Urquhart (Bruce Urquhart), Friday, 12 September 2003 20:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Bruce, I'd like to read it when it's finished so: where will the interview be available? In print/online?
