Like 1972, only 11 years later. Only one listen, but it's a sweet, sweet album
Much in the way of flute. And it has saxophone solos.

Honestly, it's really, really good.
Like tasty, tasty jam, but music.. And not really like jam at all.

So 1983?

gazuga (gazuga), Friday, 12 September 2003 08:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmmm. I dunno. I was awed by the Chester EP with Kurt Wagner but everything else has seemed a little forced and the "retro" schtick doesn't do anything to repudiate that.

Some great songs though, to be sure.

I agree Bruce it is a fine cd. Tied with Under Cold Blue Stars for his best imho. The extra DVD is pretty cool too. I noticed that he has a new dvd out entitled The Cool Smooth Sounds of Josh Rouse. Anyone seen it? Worth buying?

Who has heard Nashville? Is it as good as 1972?

The Grand Piano, Friday, 4 March 2005 18:54 (twenty years ago)

Nashville is very warm and comforting, like putting on underwear fresh out of the dryer. I like it better than 1972, for sure.

Jeff Reguilon (Talent Explosion), Friday, 4 March 2005 19:27 (twenty years ago)

I like it better than 1972 also.

I love 1972. perhaps I'll try Nashville.

derrick (derrick), Saturday, 5 March 2005 10:05 (twenty years ago)

You should Derrick, but also try Under Cold Blue Stars (the one before 1972) it is very good also.

(*self-promotion alert*) I wrote a longish profile of Mr. Rouse in the current issue of No Depression. On newsstands now!

I like Nashville pretty well. Low-key, but there's a good handful of really nice tunes.

Well Josh has a new one coming out on the 21st of March entitled Subtitulo. I have a leaked copy and I have to say that it is not nearly as good as has last 3, at least from the first couple of listens.

Yup. I like his charming MOR-ish ways, but the new one is dull as he's purported to be (but usually isn't).

I scanned through a few tracks on "1972" over headphones in a store and wrote him off, but now I must recant. He is the genuine article. An American version of the best of Phoenix, if you will, with all of the listening rewards that such implies...

Eh, maybe I exaggerated that claim...the tracks "1972" "Love Vibration" and "Comeback" are indisputably great. The rest of the record, maybe not so much?

dell, Saturday, 16 February 2008 01:06 (seventeen years ago)

"James" is right up there with "Love Vibration." That flute!

"Love Vibration," oh boy!

Geoffrey Schweppes (jaymc), Thursday, 8 August 2013 01:06 (twelve years ago)

"Love Vibration" is like some great lost alternate Sesame Street theme.
