...is about 133 BPM by my back-of-the-envelope calculation. T minus 30 seconds before EVERY house/techno/electro/etc dj is dropping in the middle of their set. and I mean EVERY SINGLE ONE.

Fucking fantastic single. Outkast should just go rave and be done with it.

― Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 12 September 2003 17:11 (twenty-three years ago)

― trife (simon_tr), Friday, 12 September 2003 17:51 (twenty-three years ago)

I keep expecting Ghettomusik to show up as a hidden track on Kish Kash.

― Brian Miller, Friday, 12 September 2003 18:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Innovation has shit to do with it, Trife, and you know it.

― Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 12 September 2003 18:14 (twenty-three years ago)

― trife (simon_tr), Friday, 12 September 2003 18:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Great and completely insane. And, actually, VERY innovative in its way.

― Douglas (Douglas), Friday, 12 September 2003 18:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Ghettomusic is fantastic, but it's no "hey ya"..

― David. (Cozen), Friday, 12 September 2003 18:48 (twenty-three years ago)

"Ladies and gentleman, we're gathered here today to join this man and this song in holy matrimony..."

― nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 12 September 2003 18:48 (twenty-three years ago)

― phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 12 September 2003 18:52 (twenty-three years ago)

You're not supposed to fuck to it! Keep up, son.

― Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 12 September 2003 18:53 (twenty-three years ago)

One thing I'm beginning to learn from ILM - if trife hates it, it probably rocks.

― nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 12 September 2003 18:53 (twenty-three years ago)

you mean 'it is probably rock'

― trife (simon_tr), Friday, 12 September 2003 19:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, exactly what I mean. < /couldn't possibly be anymore sarcastic>

― nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 12 September 2003 19:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Anywaaaaaaaay...

This track has so much P-Funk up in it with all the harmonies and shit, but it's got so much momentum behind it (until the slowdown break, that is). Big Boi sounds tighter than fuck on it; his consonants are more clear than on most of their previous stuff, his syllables don't drawl out over onto the next beat as much (which has been one of my fave things about his style 'til now btw). This song makes my pelvis bounce whether I want it to or not.

― nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 12 September 2003 19:08 (twenty-three years ago)

It's also the most 80s-ish thing they've ever done; the synths sound straight outta 1999.

― nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 12 September 2003 19:09 (twenty-three years ago)

ghettomusic = r0x0rZ

JasS0nD = OtM

― gabbo giftington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 12 September 2003 19:29 (twenty-three years ago)

hey ya is seriously like a really bad joke or something, when hiphop turns to the top three pazz & jop 02 winners for inspiration

― trife (simon_tr), Friday, 12 September 2003 19:32 (twenty-three years ago)

also that one outkast dnb beat is getting tireder than alec empires one dnb beat

― trife (simon_tr), Friday, 12 September 2003 19:33 (twenty-three years ago)

There is only one dnb beat, that's the whole problem ;)

― Ben Williams, Friday, 12 September 2003 19:35 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm sorta with trife on this. This track sound way too stupid and silly, much as the chorus ain't bad. And what the fuck is it with that stupid soul bridge?

I do like Hey Ya though, as long as you accept it has essentially nothing to do with hip-hop.

― Sterling Clover (s_clover), Saturday, 13 September 2003 02:08 (twenty-three years ago)

First thing I thought when I first heard it was 'whoa, this is like some long lost UR tech-funk stuff with vox?' It sounds like it could be a B-side (hell, the A-side) to 'the swarm/protecting my hive'. I know it sounds like I'm against fun, but I hope they put a mix that loses the off-speed interludes on the 12"

― tylero, Saturday, 13 September 2003 06:10 (twenty-three years ago)

the only problem here is the hataz
