what bpm is it now? i don't like to mess with house tempos outside of a 10bpm range either side - is it still the same pitch?

if it makes you (or the person listening to the mix) laugh then classic.

if it makes them cry then classic too.

it just makes me feel a bit dizzy

it actually seems to keep getting even faster

speeding up is classic, but only if it does *not* involve time stretching, IE, only if it makes the vocalist sound like an elf on helium.

Starting out at normal speed, then slowly increasing tempo & mixing it into a faster & harder tune = classic. People initially recognize the song and start dancing, but halfway they notice the change and the excitement of "hey something is going to happen here" kicks in.

We do this all the time at DJ sets and stuff when it's just friends fucking around, or at my friend's house...it usually works better to slow things down to the point of it sounding absolutely ludicrious.

hint for DJs - play Jerry Harrison's "New Adventure" (the 'Red & the Black' LP versh obv.) at 45 rpm, it's fantastic

Pitched down about 20-25%, Michael Jackson becomes very soulful. Must remember to burn all his albums this way and package as an alternate history box set...

Ha ha the This is What Michael Would've Sounded Like if His Testicles Had Ever Dropped mix

My 2 faves are "stand together" by the beastie boys at 45 (and maybe minus 4 or 5 on the pitch slider), which makes it fit with bangin techno, and hold its own in terms of slammin'-ness; and "donna" by the art of noise at 33 (instead of 45), which has a great growly menace to it.
