The Shanks?

In the "In The Red" thread, it appears that there's a new band called the Shanks. This suddenly reminded me that there's an old band called the Shanks who seem to have vanished off the face of the earth. They had an interesting, Fall-influenced album called "Brang" some years ago. Wasn't great, but had promise. Then they were apparently abducted by aliens and never heard of again. Until now? I'd love to know what else they did, if they're in new bands, and all that other good stuff. I'm assuming that any answers will come from England.

five months pass...
actually that "new band "called the shanks have been around for quite a while and have not been abducted like the band that you refer to they are alive and well in titusville florida and they certainly have every right to call themselves the shanks[just in case youre curious].

one year passes...
The (Irish)Shanks split about 5 years ago. The musicians are now involved in two other bands, 'stanley super 800' and 'rulers of the planet'.

Wasn't there a 'sultans of ping' connection there?

Stanley Super 800 rock, in a Corky shambolism kind of way.

Aha! Here's a VERY brief interview with The Shanks from a fanzine called "Weedbus" that I wrote for when I was about 16/17! The interview is by Clare Fraser and I think it dates from either late 94 or early 95...

I spoke to Mr Unknown 1 and Mr Unknown 2, singer and drummer from The Shanks, after their support slot at the Sultans of Ping gig...
So whaddya call that then?
"Poppy punk rock"
What age are you all?
"21,22,23. We all have the same birthday!"
Where did you get this, erm, interesting name- The Shanks?
"Well, see when you walk into the toilets...seriously!"
(After me and Ruth are done giggling) How did you get to support the infamous Sultans of Ping?
"Well, we supported them a couple of times in England. We're from Cork too, so we knew them from there. Their music's great."
Have you been to Belfast before?
"No, this is our first time. It's good."
The Shanks debut album "The Prawn Lawn" is out now in all 'good' record shops. The band want me to mention that you're not to pay any more than six quid for the tape or eight quid for the CD, because they're one of these bands who are against the ridiculously high price of CDs and tapes these days. Good lads.
