This will quite possibly be the best album EVAH.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 18 September 2003 10:42 (twenty-two years ago)

and OH MY GOD it comes out the same day as the Tori Amos retrospective!!!!!!! I want it to be Nov 17 NOW, now, now.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 18 September 2003 10:43 (twenty-two years ago)

where's "was it worth it?" gone?

anyway, i think discography + very = a btter bet than this. i don't think there's anything on here that i'd want that isn't on those two.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 18 September 2003 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

i guess it's been left off as a) it's rubbish
and b) it wasn't a top 20 hit.

piscesboy, Thursday, 18 September 2003 11:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Are the PSB the first band to have had to deal with the thorny qn of whether the "specially recorded new tracks" for one best-of are to be included on another best-of with its own SRNTs?

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 18 September 2003 11:17 (twenty-two years ago)

that's *exactly* what i thought at first. but...
wasn't 'summer night city' written especially for
'greatest hits volume 2' by abba ?
sort of the same thing isn't it being as it was on mo' gold ?

piscesboy, Thursday, 18 September 2003 12:08 (twenty-two years ago)

is every track on this a top 20 hit?!

i take yr point piscesboy, but it seems silly to have all but one track from discography on here.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 18 September 2003 12:38 (twenty-two years ago)

It has a mix of "Miserablism" on it = it is fantastic.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 18 September 2003 12:56 (twenty-two years ago)

"Was It Worth It" peaked at #24 - I think it was the *only* PSB single since the reissue of "West End Girls" in late '85 not to go Top 20.

robin carmody (robin carmody), Thursday, 18 September 2003 13:19 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah altho it's a surprise if 'yesterday when i was mad' did.

no jaxx mix on the cd ? odd.

piscesboy, Thursday, 18 September 2003 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

"Yesterday When I Was Mad" was a classic number-13-and-out single

robin carmody (robin carmody), Thursday, 18 September 2003 15:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Cure's "Wrong Number" was another instance of SRNT being including on another greatest hits compilation with new SRNTs.

Vinnie (vprabhu), Thursday, 18 September 2003 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

oh my god !!!

if u like the pet shop boys you'll freak over the inner
artwork for this album which you can see scrolling by on this link
it's basically a remix of all the album art over the years.

just click the little box on the left when you get there

see the 'introspective' rainbow !
see dusty in a psychedelic yellow !

it's what you see in yr head when u hear the records !

piscesboy, Monday, 22 September 2003 11:03 (twenty-two years ago)

oh yeah sorry here's the link :

click that box !

piscesboy, Monday, 22 September 2003 11:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I would rather they had released a "Greatest Hits Volume 2" effort of sorts, but I suspect they were afraid (probably rightfully) it wouldn't sell. Thus, they have included their more commercial (but usually musically inferior) 80s hits too.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 22 September 2003 11:34 (twenty-two years ago)

*splutters with indignation*

Tom (Groke), Monday, 22 September 2003 11:49 (twenty-two years ago)

*seconds splutter*

Jim Eaton-Terry (Jim E-T), Monday, 22 September 2003 12:19 (twenty-two years ago)

*wonders why there's any surprise*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 22 September 2003 12:23 (twenty-two years ago)

TS: "Single/Bilingual" vs "Opportunities"

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 22 September 2003 12:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Of course, it's all on tape.

Momus (Momus), Monday, 22 September 2003 12:41 (twenty-two years ago)

*Takes blame for getting Geir high*

Barima (Barima), Monday, 22 September 2003 12:42 (twenty-two years ago)

three months pass...
Gandalf is in "Heartbeat"!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 09:04 (twenty-one years ago)

the commentary track on the DVD is priceless.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 09:23 (twenty-one years ago)

somebody should've bought me this for Christmas

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 10:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Spencer, do you know NOTHING of the McKellen/Jarman feud (DJ thought it was Uncle Tomming of McKellen to take honours off a homophobic government) that made cuddly Gandalf a contentious choice in the late '80s? PSBs collaborated with both, obv.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 11:38 (twenty-one years ago)

so who is the weird old man in the 'Always On My Mind' video?

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 11:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I just tried Googling for this but no dice, and I ought to know. Perhaps Nick or my friend James E-T have this.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 12:01 (twenty-one years ago)

i never saw 'It Couldn't Happen Here' - maybe there should be a thread about it if there isn't already.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 12:05 (twenty-one years ago)

The fellow in AOMM was Joss Ackland wasn't it? Or am I getting my videos in a twist?

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 12:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I believe Tim is correct. The matter is discussed in the interview booklet to the corresponding 2 CD thingy. His gruff and manly tones also grace the 12".

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 12:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, Joss Ackland. Who once played C. S. Lewis, who was friends with Tolkien, who created Gandalf, so as you can see the Pet Shop Boys are essential for an interwoven music/writing/acting circle that defined the 20th century. Er, yeah.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 17:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, Joss Ackland. Who once played C. S. Lewis

And Mr. Topps

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 17:18 (twenty-one years ago)

the commentary track on the DVD is priceless.

Oh goodie, can't wait. Just finished watching the videos straight through -- I have seen very very few of them, oddly enough, so it was quite the experience.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 11 January 2004 06:15 (twenty-one years ago)

three months pass...
*how good* is the dvd commentary?

neil and chris's genuine affection for each other!
truly still a band unlike any other.

piscesboy, Wednesday, 5 May 2004 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

The commentary was great fun. And I have more to say about the DVD...but I'm patiently waiting on a new FT update. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 15:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Are these remixes on 'Mix' new or are they old?

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 07:59 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, I think they must be old.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 08:01 (twenty-one years ago)

They're old indeed. It's a shame that Miracles and Flamboyant are not on the DVD, because those two songs are the best they did in at least six years.

Siegbran (eofor), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 09:44 (twenty-one years ago)

three years pass...

so i got a copy of PopArt: The Hits.

the UK limited edition box set with 3 discs.

for a meager $2.99 on eBay.

that's such an unbelievably great deal, i just have to share it :D

stephen, Monday, 5 November 2007 23:07 (seventeen years ago)

just arrived today and i *know* what i'll be listening to for the next week or so.

stephen, Monday, 5 November 2007 23:08 (seventeen years ago)

ahhhhh this collection is just AWESOME.

which disc is better: Pop? or Art?

stephen, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 04:41 (seventeen years ago)

ALTERNATIVE should come with Pop Art. Get that too.
YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. unless, like, you have it already.

pisces, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 13:33 (seventeen years ago)

and then you will?

Mark G, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 13:39 (seventeen years ago)
