Comp f/ Cam'Ron - "So Much Fire"

might as well add to the onslaught of trife songthreads. Comp is a Baltimore dude who got signed to Def Jam and had an alright song on the Cradle 2 the Grave sdtk called "Do Sumpin'". this is nice, though, linking up with Cam and the Heatmakerz. i mean, it'd be an average track on Diplomatic Immunity (which is in itself so wonderful one of these days I need to make a Dipset thread), but I'm hyped to represent Bmore. dunno if it's getting spins anywhere else yet, tho.

man, I can be so compulsive about capitalizing names and titles that half the time I type Cam'ron's name I capitalize the R, which looks really stupid. sorry bout that.

so I'm not sure exactly how the Heatmakerz are more than bargain bin soul beats for dudes who don't want to pay Kanye/Blaze type money, but really, they're growing on me.

i havent heard this song but do sumpin was one of my least fav tracks on the cradle 2 the grave ost, though i really like the recent trend of non-blaze/kayne sped up soul beats, it seems like the cheapness takes away from their sometimes annoying inherent tastefulness

god, 'do sumpin' is really bad, i hate chunky beats like this and hes such an unappealingly bland mc

trife (simon_tr), Sunday, 21 September 2003 05:51 (twenty-two years ago)

and the foxy brown song after it is terrible too but then theres DRAG-ON!!!

trife (simon_tr), Sunday, 21 September 2003 05:52 (twenty-two years ago)

eh, i heard "Do Sumpin'" the other day and it was a little better than I remembered it, but yeah, it's not very good. and all i remember/like about "So Much Fire" is Cam and the beat. but so far this year Baltimore's been lacking in even the meager B Rich/Mario/Nature's Problem string of hits that were out last year, so I'm pulling for Comp anyway.

i kinda liked b rich, he seemed like just a boringly cheerful cash money mc and his cd had this inexplicable twista promo tacked on the end

trife (simon_tr), Sunday, 21 September 2003 06:01 (twenty-two years ago)

btw are you gonna post to any of my song threads!?!?!

trife (simon_tr), Sunday, 21 September 2003 06:02 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't know and/or remember much about most of them, and i have nothing to say about Fu Gee La. i think i need to go to bed now anyway.

p.s. B Rich is cool

Al (sitcom), Sunday, 21 September 2003 06:13 (twenty-two years ago)

he was kind of a proto chingy

i don't get why everyone's merking outkast for having a double cd, but the same people seem to love the boring as hell dip set double cd. i haven't heard the outkast album and i'm not really bothered about it but i bought the dip set record the day it came out over here and haven't listened to it since.

the thing about Diplomatic Immunity is that the 2nd disc was ostensibly conceived as a "bonus mixtape", which isn't really indicated on the packaging as it was released, but it makes sense all the tracks that were previously released on singles and compilations and mixtapes are on disc 2, and all the new exclusive shit is on disc 1. of course, this means that disc 2 fucking kills disc 1, and it's fine by me, because I'm just happy to have all those tracks (I Really Mean It, What's Really Good, I'm Ready) collected on the album.

in fact, I think a lot of people's albums would be better if they included a bonus disc of all the non-LP tracks and guest verses they did since the previous album. but then, I liked The Gift And The Curse a lot more than most people, and I'm definitely glad that Jay did a double album just because the Blueprint 2.1 version fucking sucked, it left in all the boring stuff and cut out half the good tracks. and I would've gladly bought a bootleg with all those other tracks if they were 'outtakes', so it's just as well that he put it all in one package first to let people decided which ones they liked.

I don't really care whether or not Outkast's album is one disc or two, though. i guess it makes sense as a 'concept' to seperate them as discs so that's cool for them. I really don't know why people get up in arms about double albums. I personally prefer short albums, my ideal album length would probably be 40-45 minutes, but if people want to blow their wad and put it all out, that's fine, I can find the good stuff myself, and if the bad stuff is really bad, I do have a skip button.

trife, you just said "proto-chingy" which I nominate as the next great music genre!

four months pass...
Comp used to be in my click (hicouncil) which you can soon check at hicouncil.com. Anyway, Comp is a hot mc, but DefJam changed his style up. I had Freestyle tapes where he spit some real hot shit! Def Jam gets a hold of a new artists and in my opinion turns them into robots. Anyway, I think Comp will be a hot mc in the near future.
