"As for me...I was headed for some wilder times that would make Altamont look like a church picnic" - Ralph 'Sonny' Barger, 'Hell's Angel'

I don't understand the first question, but the second one is a corker.

As a longtime Aphex Twin fanboy, and considering The Prodigy contributed hugely to my interest in electronic music in the first place, I don't think I could take sides. Certainly RDJ's work is far more diverse, and Liam hasn't released anything in years (or has he? I could be out of the loop) although they're both responsible for a lot of innovation and inspiration.

SAW=Stock/Aitken/Waterman?

In which case, Prince, obviously...

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 09:56 (twenty-two years ago)

but geir, prince has a lot of rhythm going on

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 10:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Prince has a lot of melodies going on too.

#1 - EASY : the good Prince (I've always considered him to be an artist capable of amazing greatness and [at the same time] the most embarassing schlock)

#2 - EASIER : Aphex Twin by a light year. Especially after hearing him live. The Prodigy, to me, seemed to be trying too hard to make "electronic music popular", by crossbreeding heavymetalfrontman ideals into it. That singer dude was (is?) way too obvious.

'trying too hard to make electronic music popular'??? but it WORKED!

dave q, Tuesday, 23 September 2003 19:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I would love to see someone make a definitive single-disc Aphex Twin best-of (his remixes, of himself or others, included)

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 19:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Prince, Prodigy

'trying too hard to make electronic music popular'??? but it WORKED!

i'm not sure it worked that well/enough. but to criticise the band for their recent dynamic negates the fine work they did between '90 and '95 (best band of the first half of the 90s by a mile for me)

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 20:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I accept your challenge Matos, stay tuned.

Andrew (enneff), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 22:49 (twenty-two years ago)

email me, Andrew

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 22:52 (twenty-two years ago)

andrew-i have a reasonable amount of aphex twin stuff, but i'd be curious to see your tracklist to see what i've missed out on,if you get a chance to post it up here...

robin (robin), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 22:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I will. When I get home from work tonight I'll go through my collection (pretty much complete) and put together the ultimate RDJ experience.

Andrew (enneff), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 23:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Based on the second question, (first was "Prince" by a long shot) damn hard to choose, though I'd have to swing with Prodigy.

(I'm curious about that AT "best of", if you lot ever manage it)

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 23:03 (twenty-two years ago)

one disc only! haha, just to see what you come up with. RJD is someone I like but have never spent as much time with as you might guess for an post-rave-besotted guy.

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 23:04 (twenty-two years ago)

An 80-minute disc, of course?

Andrew (enneff), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 23:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, am I allowed to mix? That might be considered cheating.

Andrew (enneff), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 23:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Only if you make the mix available for download.
