Underrated: TAD

packing up my music for an impending move, and decided on a whim to listen to Tad's "Jack Pepsi" and "Loser" 7"s - forgot how much they rocked!! Granted, everything post-Inhaler was sorta dull, but can anyone deny the intensity of the early shit??

Tad are the only "Seattle band" I can still stand to listen to. (Shit, they were one of the only ones I really liked even at the time. Mudhoney were all right, and Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger has its moments, but Salt Lick is one of the greatest records of the 1990s.)

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Saturday, 27 September 2003 22:32 (twenty-two years ago)

"loser" and "jack pepsi" are classic. which reminds me, one day i should probably listen to that copy of "God's Balls" i bought all those years ago

TAD fucking rules!! What about JinX?

Cacaman Flores, Saturday, 27 September 2003 22:49 (twenty-two years ago)

8-way Santa is THEE classic cutout bin CD.

Aaron A., Saturday, 27 September 2003 23:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, I used to love Jack Pepsi. Silly videos, though.

adaml (adaml), Sunday, 28 September 2003 00:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Tad ruled. The early shit! I loved all their albums. Loved all the shit they did that had to be recalled too - the original 8 Way Santa cover, the Bill Clinton poster. I heard one Hog Molly tune. It was cool to hear ol' Tad's voice again.

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Sunday, 28 September 2003 01:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Tad was great, especially the early things like 'God's Balls', but I even thought 'Infrared Riding Hood' had its moments, and is among the best album titles of all time. The really smoked live too. Seeing Dirt open for Tad was one of the great evenings of the '90s for me. Right up there with Screaming Trees opening for Firehose.

John Bullabaugh (John Bullabaugh), Monday, 29 September 2003 20:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Not only one of the best album titles, but that cockroach on the cover is fucking insane! One of best covers ever.

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Monday, 29 September 2003 21:04 (twenty-two years ago)

the Tad peel sessions feature the most albini-ish imitations of albini sound you'll ever hear, an improvement even. search search search.

Hahaha. How I knew you would post a couple down from the first. 'Sup buddy? I'm eatin' shit back home. Had to drop out again. Two words: Moctezuma's Revenge. E-mail me for more details.

BTW, surface noise, you would get along real well with this here guy. I can vouch for 'im. And I have to second the Jack Endino worship.

I've been listening to Infrared Riding Hood tonight. It scares the shit out of me. It's also one of those great records that got lost in the mid-90s transition from grunge to nu metal; severely underrated. I wish Sub Pop would re-release TAD's back cat. And WEA could give us the major label shit again, too.

MacDara, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 22:46 (eighteen years ago)

add Tad's sub pop albums to the 'need to be remastered on CD' pile. the vinyl sounds great still

I'm just your pork chop baby, that's all I'll ever be.

Picked up Salt Lick and I can see why I loved it as a teenager, still do today. So heavy.

Wow, Salt Lick is much, much better than I remembered. No way I'm going deep with all these reissues, but as long as I'm traveling back in time, which is better, * Way Santa or God's Balls? And anything redeeming about the post-Inhaler stuff?

Wimmels, Tuesday, 13 December 2016 16:27 (eight years ago)

8 Way Santa >>> God's Balls, but you definitely need the song 'Behemoth' off the latter
