Dimmu Borgir - "Death Cult Armageddon"

I can't stop listening to this album. When I first got it, I didn't think it was as good as Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia, which is an amazing record. But now, I think it's better; in fact, I think it's so good, it may be the end of the line for black metal as a genre. It's so over-the-top; it's like Laibach meets John Williams meets, well, Dimmu Borgir. Even the sampled movie dialogue fucking rules!

Anybody else heard this thing? It's gonna be in my Top Five for the year, and frankly I'm gonna be really surprised if it's not #1.

I heard the song off of the front of Terrorizer (don't know the name), and it's really fucking good. Cradle of Filth comparisons are unfounded.

Haven't listened to it much, but so far it's as annoyingly "all flash, no substance" as everything after their big style change. It's obviously produced to Shock and Awe - I have much respect for the people who had to produce and mix this thick, busy and layered music, but really can you remember a single riff?

The video for "Progienies Of The Great Apocalypse" is hilarious though, it's being played a lot on The Box over here.

four years pass...

Could not help myself from buying this monstrosity. It's just way too over-the-top. PF is right except that he missed the Asia part.

They list all their fave hardware mfrs at the end of the goofy little goth lyrics booklet!

I can't get beyond their very silly name.

They're fun. And their last album was pretty good, too.

I liked the latest album at first, but it wore on me pretty fast. I think I used to have "Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia," but I don't remember what I thought of it. I don't have it anymore in any case.

"Stormblast" holds up well, though. I find myself putting that one on reasonably often, actually.

bought 'enthrone darkness triumphant' in about 1999. didn't like it, thought it was taking black metal in the wrong direction, haven't bothered seeking out anything by them since then, etc.
