how come you can't access some user's files? i've tried via search and user lookup... nothing.

hint: [dleone]

They may choose not to share files, or they may be stuck behind a firewall outside of their control which prevents them sharing, or they may not have worked out how to tell their firewall (or router) to let traffic through on port 2234 ;-)

i can see dl's files fine......this is going sound stupid but have you 1) added dleone to your user list and 2) rightclicked on dleone once its added to your list & pressed 'browse files'?

Do you use XP? It may have something to do with your XP built in firewall. It needs to be disabled. Perhaps some kind slsker on ILX can help you do that if you don't know how. It's something to do with 2 passive connections cant connect (or something similar). SOrry I'm no good at the techie stuff, but I hope this helps.

that's interesting mainly because i have access to hundreds of other users' files just not certain ones.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:07 (twenty-one years ago)

That's how it works. If they have XP Firewall disabled (or aren't using XP) you can view each others file no problem. But if both have it enabled then you have the problem.

How to disable WinXP's built-in firewall:

- go to Start > Control Panel > Network Connections
- right-click on the main connection you use and go to Properties > Advanced tab
- uncheck "Protect my computer and network... (etc.)"

But make sure you're still using some kind of alternate 3rd-party software firewall (or hardware, i.e. a router), of course.

Oh, maybe that's the problem. Because I had selected to make "Psalm" available to everyone.
