stevem (blueski), Monday, 29 September 2003 11:49 (twenty-two years ago)

like the Mercury Prize i do get annoyed by the way this is so hyped up as important and meaningful (bit like Christmas, heh)...what was the last Christmas no. 1 that you actually bought let alone liked??? mine may be Bo Rap in '92 - didn't buy it tho

stevem (blueski), Monday, 29 September 2003 11:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I bought "Can We Fix It?". And I'm sure that a fair whack of this board own and love "Sound of the Underground"

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 29 September 2003 11:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah I bought SOTU. I like them about every other year.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 29 September 2003 12:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Top 3 Xmas Number ones ever:

3. Bob The Builder - "Can We Fix It?"
2. Human League - "Don't You Want Me?"
1. Girls Aloud - "Sound Of The Underground"

My money would go on Busted this year. Good odds and it could be the first single off the next album.

If the Pop Idol winner releases a single, then it'll be them (him). Depends on whether Waterman/Cowell reckons the winner's good enough to get the Xmas #1 without any difficulty, because no way would they put out a first single that didn't have a 99.99% guarantee of getting to #1.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 29 September 2003 12:22 (twenty-two years ago)

But "SOTU" was hardly typical Xmas number one material. One True Voice's was and it got absolutely trounced. Granted GA are a Louis Walsh band and he's got nothing to do with Pop Idol but might they not learn from last year?

Phixx are the losers from the male section of "Pop Stars: The Rivals", btw.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 29 September 2003 12:52 (twenty-two years ago)

thanks dom, i can get rid of the nightmare vision of rubbish 80s band The Fixx doing Phish cover versions out of my head. hopefully.

The Christmas #1 will be a charity single recorded by a conglomeration of artists lamenting the assasination of US president George W. Bush.

The artist lineup consists of Ted Nugent, BB King, Jeff "Skunk" Baxter, Pat Boone, Gary Numan, Gloria Estefan, Faith Hill and ZZ Top. All benefits of the sales will go to the 100 richest people in the US, and to the American weapons industry.

Geir, you do know smth others don't, don't you?

:S

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Monday, 29 September 2003 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

geir forgot to say the song will be produced by Phil Spector and feature cameos from ODB and R Kelly recorded from their respective cells

stevem (blueski), Monday, 29 September 2003 22:50 (twenty-two years ago)

stevem -- i'm afeared that Geir did not 'forget' that. for he evidently knows for sure that ODB and R Kelly will not be appearing on that recording.
