Don't change the names to look cool either..

A:
.. I think it's "If You Want Blood (You've Got It)" (AC/DC - Highway to Hell) ... that's this afternoon's opinion anyway.

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 29 September 2003 18:34 (twenty-two years ago)

"hot sinners"
black lipstick - converted thieves

dean gulberry, Monday, 29 September 2003 19:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm listening to Common's Electric Circus right now, and the track it's on right now ("Aquarius") is really friggin good, one of the most solid lyrically on the whole CD for sure, and it's just such a wonderful piece of music with the keys and the singing parts. However, my personal favorite on this album is probably the closing track, "Heaven Somewhere"...when Cee-Lo & everyone else's voices cut through that pause into the "time is a terrible thing to waste" line it's like the sun cutting through the clouds and shooting rays down at the Earth or something, just stunning. I'm currently of the impression that, not only can Cee-Lo do no wrong, but that he's incapable of anything short of astounding (World Party aside).

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 29 September 2003 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

"I'm Straight" by Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers. It's been in my head for like 24 hours now. "I'm straight...and I want...to...take his place."

NA (Nick A.), Monday, 29 September 2003 19:18 (twenty-two years ago)

why always stoned? like hippy johnny?
my friend made me a CD of random acoustic songs, and the best one on it is something concerning "the bioresearch facility"

Felcher (Felcher), Monday, 29 September 2003 19:29 (twenty-two years ago)

roxy music's "psalm". how come nobody told me how unbelievably good the 2001 roxy live dvd is?

dan (dan), Monday, 29 September 2003 19:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm listening to David Bowie's "Heroes" for the first time... and I'm enjoying it! Too soon to have a favourite song, though.

JP Almeida (JP Almeida), Monday, 29 September 2003 19:40 (twenty-two years ago)

During class I got "One More Hour" stuck in my head and I resolved to listen to Sleater-Kinney as soon as I got home but the first SK CD I found was the Hot Rock not Dig Me Out so the best song is "Get Up" even though I'd rather be saying One More Hour but I just don't want to look for it!

Sonny A. (Keiko), Monday, 29 September 2003 19:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I wish I could say my favorite song on Heroes were Blackout but it's probably the title track like everybody else

Sonny A. (Keiko), Monday, 29 September 2003 19:43 (twenty-two years ago)

The Kiss Offs, "Love You Hardcore" (Rock Bottom), thinking about how much better the Kiss Offs were (and Black Lipstick are) than all the (formerly-)hip 'garage' bands.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Monday, 29 September 2003 19:46 (twenty-two years ago)

"million dollar bash"

Annouschka Magnatech (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 29 September 2003 19:48 (twenty-two years ago)

"herz aus stein" from the flowerpornoes "...red' nicht von straßen, nicht von zügen". one of the best german albums of the 90s. the song features some excellent fingerpicking and is absolutely gorgeous. somewhere between joni mitchell and nick drake.

alex in mainhattan (alex63), Monday, 29 September 2003 19:49 (twenty-two years ago)

(Must get back on this in awhile, I just started listening to a cd I've never heard before and so far even the first song hasn't finished)

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Monday, 29 September 2003 19:50 (twenty-two years ago)

"listening to," probably "Funk You Up" by The Sequence, although "The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash..." gives it a good run. (That being disc one of "The Sugar Hill Story.")

"looking at" probably "Every Picture Tells A Story," from the rec of that name.

M Specktor (M Specktor), Monday, 29 September 2003 20:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Still pondering the complete other-worldly insanity of the last tune on the car CD player when I was coming home from work: 'Huge Gunset' by Caroliner from 'The Cooking Stove Beast' LP.

John Bullabaugh (John Bullabaugh), Monday, 29 September 2003 20:21 (twenty-two years ago)

uh..Elected, me thinks.

thomas de'aguirre (biteylove), Monday, 29 September 2003 20:37 (twenty-two years ago)

So,

"Andalucia" (cover of the Ernesto Lecuona song)
on Pink Martini's Sympathique

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Monday, 29 September 2003 20:42 (twenty-two years ago)

"White Punks On Dope" on The Tubes.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 29 September 2003 20:47 (twenty-two years ago)

....followed swiftly by "Mondo Bondage".

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 29 September 2003 20:52 (twenty-two years ago)

"Kangaroo", It'll End In Tears, This Mortal Coil.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Monday, 29 September 2003 21:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Right now I am not listening to/thinking about any CD other than I have "Fire Island" from the latest Fountains Of Wayne album in my head, and that is also the best song on that album.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 29 September 2003 21:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm listening to Transient Random Noise Bursts for the first time, so I guess "Jenny Ondioline."

Sir Leee (Leee), Monday, 29 September 2003 21:41 (twenty-two years ago)

'new killer star' (bowie/reality)

geeta (geeta), Monday, 29 September 2003 21:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmmmm. Probably "Juanito Alimana." I'm listening to Hector Lavoe "Live", trying to figure out why he often doesn't sound quite right to me. (Actually just about ALL the songs on here are really good, but I am interpreting song as "track" or "cut"). This is inspired by a discussion somewhere else about Angel Canales. Lavoe is way more of an acquired taste for me than Canales is, and yet Lavoe is a huge huge legend in salsa, while Canales is controversial. Some people like him a lot, but a lot of people think he is one of the worst salsa singers ever. I don't get it, really. From what I heard, I think he's great.

Joe Arroyo sings off key sometimes and slurs his words, but I usually feel that I get what he is doing. But Lavoe sometimes sounds really awful to me. (Not all the time, mind you.)

Al Andalous, Monday, 29 September 2003 21:51 (twenty-two years ago)

great question. I'm playing Patrin's 1979 MP3 mix for the first time, so I'll limit myself to the songs showing in the winamp window right now, tracks 27-59. that would be Chic's "Good Times," easy.

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 29 September 2003 22:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Comin' Round by Bubba Sparxxx

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 29 September 2003 22:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Listening to Alice by Tom Waits, but also thinking about the Les Rallizes Denudes double LP on eBay that I was outbid on.

Ian Johnson (orion), Monday, 29 September 2003 23:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Listening to "U Know How We Roll" by Ward 21, for the first time, and loving it (despite a fairly crappy over- sibilant pressing). My favourite somg is probably "Something About Her", a touchingly goofy love song with a lovely acoustic guitar groove and surprisingly few drums. Although the mighty "Petrol" is on here too, so that might shade it... nah, this is better...

Conor (Conor), Monday, 29 September 2003 23:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Aye Today (The Great Eastern)

edward o (edwardo), Monday, 29 September 2003 23:34 (twenty-two years ago)

A Flock of Seagulls best of is closest to my computer, and I think it's "Space Age Love Song"

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 29 September 2003 23:41 (twenty-two years ago)

"Summer Parade" from Brookville, the new project from Ivy member Andy Chase. Breezy, woozy pop featuring background vocals from my man Eric Matthews (who should get off his ass and do that third solo record instead of guesting on other people's records).

Erick H (Erick H), Monday, 29 September 2003 23:47 (twenty-two years ago)

"No Excuses". The only song by Alice In Chains I've remotely enjoyed (ok, I did like it when Beavis & Butthead quoted "The Rooster" in front of that Army recruiter)

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 29 September 2003 23:49 (twenty-two years ago)

right now i can't get enough of taproot's "mine". it's tight and their vocals are great.

eric, Tuesday, 30 September 2003 01:10 (twenty-two years ago)

OMD - Sugar Tax -> Big Town or Speed of Light or the cover of Neon Lights

A Nairn (moretap), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 01:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Sons Of Pioneers from Japan's Tin Drum, which I am only thinking about - the re-issues have yet to make it down here, errrh.

Damian (Damian), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 01:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Either "Duvan" or "De Fortrycktas Aterkomst (En Karlekshistoria)" -- thank ya, Trad, Gras och Stenar!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 01:31 (twenty-two years ago)

this is rather bad luck : a Kate Bush impersonator singing and dancing "Wuthering Heights" on Stars in Their Eyes

george gosset (gegoss), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 01:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh Yeah (Roxy's Flesh and Blood). Or is it Same Old Scene? Or is it the title track? Fantastic record anyway.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 06:14 (twenty-two years ago)

"Grey Day", Zoot Woman

willem (willem), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 07:01 (twenty-two years ago)

speaking of kate bush: "hounds of love"

Annouschka Magnatech (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 10:32 (twenty-two years ago)

The only CD in sight is a bad-burn CDR of Miracle Legion's "Surprise Surprise Surprise" - I think "Wonderment" was the best song on it.

dave225 (Dave225), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 10:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Listened to Sgt Peppers on the way in - "A Day In The Life" is easily the best, though I probably enjoyed "Within You Without You" most this listen.

Of the batch of songs for Popular I'm currently downloading, I'm most looking forward to hearing "Uptown Top Ranking" though "Float On" by The Floaters intrigues me more.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 10:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm listening to The Immaculate Collection so choosing a best song is the most impossible thing ever. It's "Papa Don't Preach" right now though.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

"Duk Koo Kim", Sun Kil Moon 14:32 of pure bliss.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 12:48 (twenty-two years ago)

As per the 'thinking-about' tip,
"I Could Have Killed Him In The Sauna" (Jagga Jazzist) has stuck to my brain for several days now.

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 13:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Dre3000: 'The Love Below'
Best song: 'Spread'!

Jay Kid (Jay K), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Currently listening to Cornelius' Point and though this track playing now ("Another View Point") is quite the audio skullfuck ("another deja vu experience...POINT!"), and "I Hate Hate" was what initially sold me on this album, it's probably his vocoder version of "Brazil" on here that is the highlight for me.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Random Rules by Silver Jews, or Speed Trials by Elliott Smith - one of these is the best song on CD1 of this here new Domino comp. I was just thinking about the new record by Explosions In The Sky, thanks to someone phoning me up about it. Fair's fair, it would seem to be a lovely album. It's an indie day fo sho.

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 13:35 (twenty-two years ago)

so far it's Stutterin' Cindy by Charlie Feathers. The album's 'Memphis Rocks' - Rockabilly in Memphis 11954-1968. Never heard any Feathers before anad it's fantastic.

hinter_land (hinter_land), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Dave, if you haven't heard Mark Kozelek's version of "If You Want Blood" you should, it's great.

For the past three days I've been listening to/thinking about MF Doom is Viktor Vaughn - "Let Me Watch" feat Apani B. The exchange between the two is so realistic, and Apani, playing a young and inexperienced girl trying to start a relationship, goes from this weak-at-the-knees girl madly in love with the older Vik to this pissed off woman who won't be disrespected or mistreated. Add to that the mellow drum beat, piano trills and simple guitar line, and I'm in heaven every time.

Jonathan (Jonathan), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

"Hungry Like the Wolf" (Duran Duran, "Greatest")

The more I think about it, "Hungry Like The Wolf" is sort of a less sick version preview of Limp Bizkit's "Eat You Alive," in part due to Durst's letch-like persona and in part because DD never seemed so creepy, i.e. they didn't try to date every pop singer hovering around age 20.

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 14:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, the net cafe is playing the new Dido, so that's no good.

I thought about way too many albums today, but I think 'Britney' was the most recent and therefore, 'I'm A Slave 4 U' is the correct answer*.

*There was also this really masterful psych track by Buffalo Springfield that Cornelius and Kenji Ozawa filched for 'Dolphin Song' of Flipper's Guitar's Dr Head's World Tower but I don't know the name of the song and I thought of 'Dolphin Song'/Springfield before Britney.

Barima (Barima), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 14:23 (twenty-two years ago)

"the end has no end" (ver strokes)

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 14:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorta hoping the version of "Am I Evil?" Metallica do on this thing is really good, so we'll see.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 18:41 (twenty-two years ago)

i just ejected futuristic dragon by t.rex so the answer is "jupiter liar".

will g. (will g.), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 18:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I take it back, it's clearly this version of "Seek and Destroy" with the various audience members yelling out the title. Genius.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 19:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Cibo Matto Stereo Type A...I like the vocal harmonies in "Spoon" and "Moonchild" best, but my favorite/the best is most likely "Lint of Love", between the funky-as-fuck clavinet line (thank you Mr. Medeski), the smooth ass horn riffery (can't remember these dudes' names BUGGAH), but especially the layers of vocal lines and the borderline-ridiculous distorted guitar riff that comes in near the end...solid.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 19:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Orange, Tuesday, 30 September 2003 19:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm thinking about Adore by the pumpkins, and as great as some of the songs on it are, "Blank Page" is haunting all of my saddest memories right now. what a great song.

Felcher (Felcher), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 20:25 (twenty-two years ago)

"Piazza, New York Catcher", I'd say, but I still can't decide.

I'm listening to the Qur'an, crusader dogs!

Al Andalous, Thursday, 2 October 2003 01:47 (twenty-two years ago)
