I've not heard enough Lush (I only own Spooky), so I'll cheat and pick Starlust eight times, then Hypocrite and Desire Lines. I like Starlust that much.

Damian (Damian), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 02:00 (twenty-two years ago)

do you mean split?

i pick starlust only 4 times and then superblast twice and then sweetness and light, stray, nothing natural and monochrome

ron (ron), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 03:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Spooky has been one of my very favorite albums for years, but somehow... I barely know the names of any of the songs on it. I just put the album on and let it go.

Oh yeah, I did mean Split - how silly of me! My choices still stand, mind you.

Damian (Damian), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 08:12 (twenty-two years ago)

The first ten songs off Gala. And, really, any other songs. It doesn't matter, they're all good.

kate (kate), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 09:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Spooky is all you need.

When I got Split, I played it over and over and over and over. I can still put it on and listen to it 5 times in a row. I love this band. Saw them only once, and they were awesome (Weezer opened, if you can believe that). I have a soft spot for "Hey Hey Helen" off of Gala. All the other songs that you fine folks have picked are f*ing ace. I need not repeat them.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Every list should have "De-Luxe" and "Tiny Smiles" on it.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 13:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to truly adore this band, but can barely remember any of their song titles at this point. I was lucky enough to interview them a few times, and they were truly nice, funny folks. The since-passed-on drummer was a dead-ringer (pardon the tasteless pun) for Peter Muphy.

1. "De-Luxe"
2. "Hypocrite"
3. "Sweetness & Light"
4. "Untogether"
5. "Leaves Me Cold"
6. "Nothing Natural"
7. "For Love"
8. "Single Girl"
9. "Scarlet"
10. "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" (cover)

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Everything on the Mad Love ep plus Bitter plus I've Been Here Before plus Kiss Chase plus Hypocrite plus Tiny Smiles plus everything else. Even the Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep cover.
We took Lush for granted. Tsk.

David Merryweather (DavidM), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 16:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd like to state again that "De-Luxe" is FUCKING MONSTROUS.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 18:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I usually avoid these list threads (and won't have a contribution here), but it is good to see the love. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Kate, you have Gala? On CD? Dammit I've been scouring second-hand shops for that since I lost my (ropey cassette) copy back in...1994 or something.

Care to share?

Anyone else? Dammit I need it, my copy of That Slightly Embarrassing Britpoppish One just ain't enough...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 19:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I have Gala on cd. Is it really rare?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 19:26 (twenty-two years ago)

So do I. That means it can't be too rare.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 19:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Whatever happened to lovely Miki Berenyi? I know Emma formed the Yum Yums or whatever they were called (never cared much for Emma), but wither Miki?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 19:38 (twenty-two years ago)

No. I just think I'm looking for Lush in all the wrong places.

Thanks, i'll be here all night...except I won't, cos with any luck someone'll ring me with the offer of a free Rapture ticket any second now...

(and I still *really* want a copy of Gala btw!)

ps. Miki Lush is driving a cab in NW1.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I have Gala on vinyl complete with exquisite sleeve within a sleeve within a sleeve artwork. A thing of rare beauty.

David Merryweather (DavidM), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 18:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Well worth hanging on to, it qualifies as a true "artifact" now

ps. Miki Lush is driving a cab in NW1.

Something tells us she is slogging away in a second-rate band NME just hasn't heard of yet. Pity, if true.
