Folks who very predictably show up to diss certain artists and belittle the fans of said artists. Go!

I'll admit it. But, be thankful....think of how boring ILM would be if not for flagrantly provocative statements like, say, "Patti Smith ain't nothin' but a barefoot hippie!" or "Radiohead? More like RadioPANTS!" etc.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Ani Di FRANKLY RIDICULOUS.

adaml (adaml), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Killing Joke! More like Running Joke!

adaml (adaml), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 14:15 (twenty-one years ago)

God forbid there be disagreements about individual artists!

some people just have fiery opinions and are impatient, i guess.

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I do it too. Though not as often. It's just easier to put someone down and make fun of their shortcomings than it is to offer actual asshat, I mean insight.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

asshat - who came up with that word. Genius.

nick.K (nick.K), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

You haven't put me on that list - how disappointing

Dadaismus (Dada), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

asshat - popularized by Office Space?

I wish I dissed more bands. :(

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

naughty dom. - mod

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Jesus, I need to find better ways to use my time....like working, perhaps.

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

It's wrong to disagree? I think dissent makes for interesting conversation, consensus tends to be boring.

Nicolars (Nicole), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

(Ha ha I'm right next to Chuck.)

Al Andalous, Wednesday, 1 October 2003 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

can someone make sure that dom's last post doesn't actually broadcast everyone's email address?

amateuristic, Wednesday, 1 October 2003 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

i feel left out too

These guys (the people being discussed for those who need a warning before the satire starts) are hacks. They should've packed it in after their first posts. I haven't heard anything good from them since Hoover was in the White House.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 15:54 (twenty-one years ago)

fwiw I actually meant this very good-naturedly as one of my favorite things about ILM is the "ha ha zing!"ness of it, or as trife I think once said "at least on ILM people use big words to insult each other"

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Is there like some mental issue on ILM that means every four months someone forgets that putting full email addresses in googleable form on a thread is a completely jackassed fucking thing to do? This happens all the bloody time, what in the hell?

Oh and FWIW I never see Ned make posts on ILM besides coming onto a thread and pointing out that he hates the band in question ;)

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 16:14 (twenty-one years ago)

i deleted all thee email addresses from dom's list. please remember that spambots harvest lists like this for valid addresses to send junkmail to, as anyone who remembers "sexi-mandi" will attest.

Pashmina-modbot (Pashmina), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, and the obvious answer to the question is dadaismus and gier. no-body else even comes close.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

whoops, sorry norman! i just linked from dom's post to the users top 50 (what he posted in case anyone didn't realize.)

gabbo giftington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 16:19 (twenty-one years ago)

in any event, i don't think any great loss to modern humor happened here today.

gabbo giftington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 16:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Trust me, there's been a pretty huge loss here.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 16:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm being held down.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh and FWIW I never see Ned make posts on ILM besides coming onto a thread and pointing out that he hates the band in question ;)

Yay! Oh wait. (Clearly the answer is I've already posted on all the threads about bands I love and the rest is hate...er.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

but isnt't there something gained for the benefit of the human species if people exorcize their asshatiness here rather than in real life?

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah totally Horace, my venting here keeps me from walking up to the gaggles of mooks "bumping" that new Limp Bizkit CD and screaming in their faces "WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOUR EARS!?!?". Of course that would imply I encountered IRL people who actually listened to Limp Bizkit and thankfully this isn't the case.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 17:28 (twenty-one years ago)

i do this

chaki (chaki), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh shit yeah you do...but unlike me you're funny when you do it!

(That one thread you did about people's little brothers' bands getting signed was CLASSIC.)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 17:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't heard anything good from them since Hoover was in the White House.

You mean Monica Lewinsky?

nickn (nickn), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

You mean Monica Lewinsky?

Thank you, ladies and gentleman. You've been a wonderful audience. Good night. Don't forget to tip your servers.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I honestly with I posted here steadily enough to be included in this thread. So sad.

gage o (gage o), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

The only reason I made the list these days is because I posted so much to One Out, One In.

Al Andalous, Wednesday, 1 October 2003 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

The only reason I made the list is because of my large number of lengthy, well-thought-out posts that make sizzlense.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 18:53 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, and the obvious answer to the question is dadaismus and gier. no-body else even comes close.

Good old Pash! You came thru for me!

Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 2 October 2003 11:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Whua!? I've never heard an unkind word from either nickalicious or Dadaismus. Whats the deal?
Alex in NYC, though, does get...uh...rambunctious, but he does with style, pizzazz and panache. So I forgive him calling random musicians "whistleheads"

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Thursday, 2 October 2003 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

When I saw Patti Smith live she was wearing shoes.

Annouschka Magnatech (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 2 October 2003 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Have you ever seen me post on a Limp Bizkit thread Custos? Or a Bob Dylan thread?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 2 October 2003 16:01 (twenty-one years ago)

but he does with style, pizzazz and panache

Thanks, m'lord.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 2 October 2003 16:06 (twenty-one years ago)

if it wasn't for people like alex, jess, matos, blount, and others contributing to this board i would have left a looooooooooooooong time ago. they are cranks but they are talented cranks.and certainly entertaining. long may they rage.

scott seward, Thursday, 2 October 2003 16:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Have you ever seen me post on a Limp Bizkit thread Custos? Or a Bob Dylan thread?
Nope. So your saying those threads have you a bad reputation as a crank?

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Thursday, 2 October 2003 16:35 (twenty-one years ago)

(Creates threads with Travis, Coldplay, Ocean Colour Scene or Dodgy in their title and checks how many people desperately must pop into that thread just to tell the world how much they hate them)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 2 October 2003 21:26 (twenty-one years ago)

hark at the pot calling the kettle black gierismus.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 2 October 2003 21:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, there are several hundred posters here bitching about how much they hate Coldplay and Travis. Wouldn't it be fair with at least one poster going on about how much he hates acts that are more or less the opposite of those, just to create some balance?

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 2 October 2003 21:33 (twenty-one years ago)

bitching doesn't cancel out bitching gier, it just makes more bitching.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 2 October 2003 21:59 (twenty-one years ago)

POV: ILM posters who only click on certain threads to be an asshat and diss the artists that Geir discusses.

John Prescot, Thursday, 2 October 2003 22:02 (twenty-one years ago)

there is one really great song on Trick Of The Tail. all acoustic and beautiful harmonies. can't think of the title though. it's probably my favorite genesis song.wait, there might be some sqiggly synth sounds at the beginning of it if i'm remembering correctly.

scott seward, Thursday, 2 October 2003 22:08 (twenty-one years ago)

"Entangled"? i think that might be it.

scott seward, Thursday, 2 October 2003 22:13 (twenty-one years ago)

"Entangled" is the one I think. (are you on the right thread scott?)

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 2 October 2003 22:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Hooray. I can sleep soundly now.

John Prescot, Thursday, 2 October 2003 22:16 (twenty-one years ago)

i just felt like saying something nice about Geir's favorite band.

scott seward, Thursday, 2 October 2003 22:17 (twenty-one years ago)

And the Internet Good Fellowship award goes to . . .

John Prescot, Thursday, 2 October 2003 22:19 (twenty-one years ago)

(are you on the right thread scott?)
-- Pashmina

(As long as Scott is on the right track, doesn't matter if he's on the right thread, does it? ;)

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Thursday, 2 October 2003 22:21 (twenty-one years ago)

no, of course not.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 2 October 2003 22:33 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not like there is a lot of Genesis bitching here anyway. :-)

Generally, the problem isn't bitching about traditionally melodic bands from the past, but rather bitching about traditionally melodic current bands.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 2 October 2003 22:37 (twenty-one years ago)

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Friday, 3 October 2003 00:34 (twenty-one years ago)

the so-called "Asshats" in question hardly merit "Asscap" if you ask me.

i probably rate as low as "ass skully" (lycra bike shorts?)

vahid (vahid), Friday, 3 October 2003 01:16 (twenty-one years ago)

ass yarmukle?

nate detritus (natedetritus), Friday, 3 October 2003 01:24 (twenty-one years ago)
