Say, if one was getting married, what would be a good song for the first dance of the bride and groom? Any suggestions?

Samla Mammas Manna's "Långt ner i ett kaninhål" aka "Deep down a rabbit's hole"
That'll set the pace for a marvellously jolly wedding to boot.

See I held off on the sarcasm.
Eric Carmen - "All By Myself"

"O Superman" by Laurie Anderson, followed jarringly by "South of Heaven' by Slayer

Kelis: Caught Out There

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Friday, 3 October 2003 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

"Where The Wild Roses Grow" may also be a good choice. :-)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Friday, 3 October 2003 12:11 (twenty-two years ago)

my brother had 'lovin you' by minnie ripperton which was lovely (though you have to shuffle rather than dance)

recently went to a wedding disco which finished with the booker t cricket theme song - that was ace

adam b (adam b), Friday, 3 October 2003 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Given one of them has been married twice before, "Mistake #3" by Culture Club may also be a nice first dance...

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Friday, 3 October 2003 12:29 (twenty-two years ago)

A cousin of mine and her husband chose "Falling" (the Twin Peaks theme) for their first dance. Although their dance, too, was more of a shuffle.

j.lu (j.lu), Friday, 3 October 2003 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Also Ten songs to be played in weddings...

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Friday, 3 October 2003 12:43 (twenty-two years ago)

We used "Center of Gravity" by Yo La Tengo which was nice cuz it's a husband/wife duet. Other songs up near the start of the mix were "I Feel Fine" by the Beatles, "Sunshine of my Life" by Stevie Wonder, "Ain't that a Kick in the Head" by Dean Martin, "Makin' Whoopie" by Frank Sinatra.

BrianB, Friday, 3 October 2003 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I was at a wedding a month ago where Lee Greenwood's "Proud to Be An American" was played TWICE!. It made me want to gargle with sulfuric acid.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 3 October 2003 15:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Yuck....Lee Greenwood has a wierd 80s porn vibe that creeps me out.

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 3 October 2003 18:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I wish more weddings had a weird 80s porn vibe. Or any kind of 80s vibe, for that matter.

Nicolars (Nicole), Friday, 3 October 2003 18:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't you mean Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA"?

Mark (MarkR), Friday, 3 October 2003 19:14 (twenty-two years ago)

"Our Way to Fall" by Yo La Tengo is a very sweet song that might work really well as a wedding first dance type of song. Sorry for the lack of sarcasm. I'll try harder next time.

Charlie Rose (Charlie Rose), Friday, 3 October 2003 20:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't you mean Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA"?

Well, it's the one with the chorus of: "And I'm proud to be an American/Where at least I know I'm free...."

I always hated that "at least" in there. It just sounds so goddamn xenophobic.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 3 October 2003 20:41 (twenty-two years ago)

"Somebody" - Depeche Mode

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 3 October 2003 22:16 (twenty-two years ago)

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 4 October 2003 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

We used the Johnny Cash version of "memories are made of this" at our wedding.
