Time to bring the pain...

Pick your purveyors of early 90s drugsugarwhimsy:

One one side- Radial Spangle with the Fridmann connection, and a few decent songs (I like Canopy And Shoe and Birthday).

On the other- the "Irish Mercury Rev" with Jimi Shields on guitar.

radial spangles peel session was good, the rest of their cannon was tripe.
everything by rollerskate skinny is mince, i'm afraid

so radial spangle win it

I seem to remember seeing both of these back in the day, as I recall it Radial Spangle weren't quite as bad as Rollerskate Skinny so they win by a whisker. Anyone remember Rosa Mota? They really were mince.

nordique...

let me go find my thread where i declare rollerskate skinny the worst band i've ever seen in my life...

from the rollerskate skinny - c/d thread:

"possibly the worse Salinger-ref name possible, the draw of Jimi Shields (sibling of Kevin), and they were sandwiched between two of my favorite bands at the time (further and Pavement) in April 1994...
very bad "world-beat" take on british indie rock. i thought of them as a low-low-rent seefeel mixed with really bad keyboard tones (not hip or ironic "bad" just plain cheesy).

their "sound" just lingered around the concert hall, trying desperately to dissipate but the doors were closed so it instead hung stagnantly in the air, eagerly anticipating to be forgotten.

i never thought i'd ever hear of them again. cheers. see ya mate, yeah, see ya mate.

full disclosure-i have never heard anything else by rollerskate skinny (i gather they came from the town i live in,incidentally)(but that wouldn't make sense now that i think of it cause surely jimi shields is from cork)and i don't even know who radical spangle are

Rollerskate Skinny by a length. Radial Spangle had their heart in the right place, and an old Flaming Lips drummer in Richard English, but it just did not click for me at all. Let's not forget Sixteen Deluxe. They were good too. Would Poem Rocket fit in this debate...?

Let us celebrate Furry Things.

sixteen deluxe are way underrated. their last album was fantastic.

Dude i saw rollerskate skinny and they were not that bad but they just couldnt pull off the same sound as they could on the records.. i think they just had too much going on so it sounded like garbage in the mix..pavement as well
