Pet Shop Boys - Shameless

When it came out I didn't like this much - it seemed a bit sneery and also a bit of an over-reaction. Either I've become more sneery myself or the times have caught up with it or I've just become easier to please or I've finally succumbed to the fucking amazing monstrous disco wham of it but now I think it's up there with their best ever tracks and it really should have been and should still be a single (though putting a song called "Shameless" on the B-Side of "Go West" was a good joke so I forgive them).

It's one joke, but oh MY what a joke. Maybe my favorite song by them.

Douglas (Douglas), Sunday, 5 October 2003 11:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Remarkably prescient, that song.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 5 October 2003 12:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm confused, have they done two songs called Shameless then? I only know the one on the bside of Go West

We're shameless
We will do anything
To get our fifteen minutes of fame (give me fifteen minutes)
We have no integrity
We're ready to crawl to obtain celebrity
We'll do anything
With anyone
Go absolutely anywhere
For anything
At all

Nice to see other people out there who agree that this song is pure brilliance. And arguably more relvant in the current media environment...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Sunday, 5 October 2003 17:46 (twenty-two years ago)

You're all making this song up, aren't you?

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 6 October 2003 00:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Silly boy, we are not.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 6 October 2003 01:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, it's a classic song. What was the B-sides/rarities comp called again? That had a few real pearlers on it...

The Pet Shop Boys make me homesick more than any other British band for some weird reason.
