Yeah, very important question. What is the origin of the phrase "rock out with your cock out"? When and where was the first known use of the phrase?

from the french 'cocquaute' meaning "little sailor's cap".

"rock out with your little sailor's cap". because the guy from metallica, alvin metallica, used to wear them back when the band started out. in the fourties.

"Rock out with your cock out" was once interchangeable with "Careful with that zipper, Eugene", though the latter is nowadays rather seldom used.
At least that's how Nikolas Kunt reports it in his 'Daff Stuff'.

Nixon said it on "Laugh-In."

JSizzler, Monday, 6 October 2003 04:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Matt Pritchard of Welsh 'Jackass' copyist show 'Dirty Sanchez' used it as the slogan for a limited edition beer he put his name to. Sadly the beer tasted bland and ordinary.

Anthony Kiedis or Ted Nugent. Either way it originated the backwoods of Michigan.

i believe iggy was the first to actually rock with his cock all the way out.

There again is the Michigan connection. Michigan, where you prove your manhood by *prooving* your manhood.

BrianB, Monday, 6 October 2003 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Incidentally, Anthony Kiedis once proved his manhood to me in person when I was working at a publishing company in Grand Rapids, Michigan that helped put out the RHCP Fan Club Newsletter. Anthony's dad, Blackie Dammitt (the actor who got beat up by Mel Gibson in the Christmas tree lot in Leathal Weapon) still lives in Grand Rapids and was in charge of putting out the quarterly newsletter. So one day, when Anthony was visiting home, Blackie brought him over to meet us and he promptly walked into our little closet office bathroom and took a piss in front of us without shutting the door. Nice manners, that Anthony.

Rock from Mozambique to China with exposed and free vagina?

I don't know that I've ever been happier with myself than I am right now.

Ben Boyer (Ben Boyer), Monday, 6 October 2003 17:23 (twenty-one years ago)

"rocking with your cock out" is done, not said.

There's a girl I know who says this "rock out" phrase all the time, because she's slipping away. Because she has a fifty hour a week job now and no longer goes to shows. It's a phrase that should never, ever be said out loud. As soon as it's said, it starts to make you more and more transparent, like in Back to the Future.

I remember, way back in the misty vales of time (20 years ago), when Jason and the Nashville Scorchers (pre-just-plain-Scorchers) were this weird, superhot unknown band playing the Southern college town circuit, guitarist Warner Hodges became infamous for this trick where he would flip up his guitar mid-solo to reveal that he was, indeed, rocking out with his cock out. I never personally witnessed this, so I can't vouch. It's been so damn long ago that I may be conflating separate stories, but I seem to remember the phrase coming up in print or conversation around that time. Of course, it could very well predate Hodges and his cock. Who knows.

Lee G (Lee G), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 13:15 (twenty-one years ago)

many mistake the Lizard King's musings with his cock as "rocking with your cock out", when, indeed, he exposed himself, but in his drunken state...was hardly rocking.

thomas de'aguirre (biteylove), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

a friend of mine and i would always sing "rock out with your cock out" to the tune of alice cooper's "no more mr. nice guy". it totally fits.

James Annett (jlannett), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

RHCP. The whole socks thing.

scott m (mcd), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

two years pass...
Here in Northern California we've got a new turn on the phrase "rock out with your cock out" ... it's now bi-gender-friendly with "jam out with your clam out." Ha! though I did like Mozambique to China with exposed and free vagina.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 04:08 (nineteen years ago)

Counter to the rockism:

Crunk out with your junk out

Twang out with your wang out

Twee out with your wee out

Pavane out with your baton out

Hick out with your dick out

Wig out with your twig out

Noise out with your boys out

Swing out with your thing out

Emote out with your scrote out

Psych out with your pike out

Drone out with your bone out

Skank out with your crank out

Rai out with your guy out

Umlaut with your boom out

Trip out with your nip out

Rag out with your bag out

Easy-listening out with your greasy-glistening out

Folk out with your bloke out

Conduct out till you're fucked out

Compose out with your hose out

Hymn out with your trim out

Blues out with your cooze out

'Zak out with your jack out

and so on.

Indeed. Doom out with your shroom out.

brianiast (briania), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 16:45 (nineteen years ago)

nine years pass...

The first time I heard the phrase was in Hawaii in the late 70's. The band was called Lock Up Your Daughters and the lead singer was Tookie. The song was "Rock Out With Your Cock Out". I don't know if Tookie coined the expression. The song was a simple Heavy Metal 1-1-4-1-5-1. Typical 1 note screaming. 4/4 time.
Rock(1) Out(2) WithYourCockOut(3&4).
Ok...chew up a light bulb and swallow and you will get Tookie's voice.
