I adored them! Ever since I heard their track "Perfume" on an indie pirate station called Q102. I bought a Paris Angels "Scope" t-shirt. I still play their album, "Sundew". Yet the music press hated them.

Yep Perfume is an excellent track, excellent groove - shame their debut album was a let down.

Going with the flow here - Perfume was indeed splendid, but alas as the equally splendid DJ Martian says the album was pish. I seem to remember a wretched cover of "What Goes On" was on it? Am I "on the money" or am I imagining this?

there is indeed a cover of "What Goes On"; it's one of the stand-out tracks of the album, together with "Fade". The version of "Perfume" on the album isn't nearly as good as the original single.

Hi there I played bass and co-wrote the songs in Paris Angels, it seems mad that people still like "Perfume" but it was a great track, but even I agree that our album was shite, we had major rows with the "producer" its a pity because the second Virgin lp that got shelved was more like it. Well if you like "Perfume" I'm still doing music this time as an electronic three piece named Free Machine, free tracks will be on the web site www.freemachine.net there is email there let me know what you think. Nice to hear from you Scott. Perfume WAS indeed ace (probably more likely to be describes as TOP at the time) as were all the singles which I still have and I even liked the cover of "What Goes On" so there.

I remember thinking there was a sample on Scope (was it) from the movie 2010 ("What's going to happen?" "Something wonderful") but I couldn't find a credit. any clue?

Dear Alan,

The samples on that track are from 2001 I was a huge fan and used to do all the sampling, but it was in the days before you had to credit them, that is also my favorite Angels track (Too Easy) and I don't have a copy (I think) anymore, we did it all in one take the night the Gulf War kicked off, Me and Wags recorded the track extra stoned to get rid of the bad vibes, because war is bad! Try Bear Share or Napster( out again soon) to get Perfume.

2001?? i'm pretty sure you mean 2010 right? (it's the returned Dave Bowman talking to Hal about the imminent ignition of Jupiter v near the end.) thanks for that though, i was sure it was a sample (from whichever film it was!)

Other choonz with 2001/2010 samples? erm, New Order's "Murder", Colorbox "Just Give 'em Whiskey" erm, ...
