Cracker does snarky covers of country. Hey I bet they'll be funny....turn on the fun! God I hate Cracker. and Camper Van Beethovan.

I thought these guys died in a tour bus accident or something. Why aren't they dead yet?

Mike Taylor (mjt), Monday, 6 October 2003 23:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Chuck Eddy actually likes it! And after hearing that Forever album, I can't imagine how this could be worse.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 6 October 2003 23:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't see what's wrong with this. Do you think they're mocking music you like?

Sonny A. (Keiko), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 00:03 (twenty-one years ago)

How'd you like Ween's 12 Golden Country Greats, Matt?

Nick Mirov (nick), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 00:12 (twenty-one years ago)

it's not bad actually. and i'm no cracker fan.

scott seward, Tuesday, 7 October 2003 02:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm a country fan, and I have no problem with this at all. I think Lowery might even have a fairly good country voice, depending on the material and the amount of whiskey & cigarettes invloved.

George Jones made some very intentionally funny and fun country songs. And so did Tom T. Hall and Kris Kristofferson and Johnny Cash . . .

Charlie Rose (Charlie Rose), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 02:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I fail to see anything "snarky" about a band wanting to record an album of covers of songs they love in a style that they love.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 11:32 (twenty-one years ago)

What did indie fans ever do to deserve this:

..Huh?

Indie-1, Country-0.

dave225 (Dave225), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 11:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought Chris Gaines was more Prince than indie?

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe. Who cares, really.

dave225 (Dave225), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

God I always forget about that Chris Gaines album. I mean, fer chrissakes, that's gotta be the most rigoddamndiculous thing ever, ugh.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't like cracker
but they like themselves enough
so they just don't care

Haikunym (Haikunym), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

God I always forget about that Chris Gaines album.
Consider yrslf lucky.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

The fucking band is named Cracker. I'm just surprised it took them this long to think of doing this. (I liked "Eurotrash Girl.")

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 16:21 (twenty-one years ago)

why?
they've always had country leanings

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 16:25 (twenty-one years ago)

What I wrote about it is here:

http://www.villagevoice.com/issues/0335/eddy.php

What I left out is that Lowery sings "Tonight The Bottle Let Me Down" even worse than Elvis Costello did back on (the otherwise way worse) *Almost Blue.* But that's one of the few cuts that I don't like.

chuck, Tuesday, 7 October 2003 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

and to answer the question:
PLENTY!
Country Fans have more to answer for than a fistful of writers for Jeopardy.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I love Cracker and this sounds like a cool album to me.

Mark M, Wednesday, 8 October 2003 01:38 (twenty-one years ago)

The difference between this album and "12 Golden Country Hits" is that Cracker is actually taking the concept seriously. Whenever a band does that, they should be prepared for ridicule. Ween is invincible, though, because they take nothing seriously AND simply because they're Ween.

Chesnick, Wednesday, 8 October 2003 03:32 (twenty-one years ago)

AND becuz their fans are morons

cinniblount (James Blount), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 04:18 (twenty-one years ago)

The only information I've seen regarding the Cracker album is from the Rolling Stone link at the top of this thread. Sounds like they're having a good time with the making of the album. If it does suck, I don't know if it's going to be because the took the concept too seriously. But, maybe there's something I'm missing.
