Sonny Bono Deserves Some Respect

he wrote at least 4 unimpeachably great perfect pop songs ("Needles & Pins", "Laugh At Me" which out-mouses Mouse & The Traps in the surly faux dylan sweepstakes, "The Beat Goes On" which out-foxes Barry McGuire in the resigned fatalist yet topical faux dylan sweepstakes, and of course "I Got You Babe" which out-babes Dylan's own "It Ain't Me Babe" songs-with-babe-in-the-title sweepstakes).

The chorus to "I Got You Babe" totally freaked me out rhythmically as a child.

I hope 50 Cent likes it!

he's in for a treat, for "laugh at me" alone that would be a bargain at twice the price

"Sonny wanted the term of copyright protection to last forever. I am informed by staff that such a change would violate the Constitution. I invite all of you to work with me to strengthen our copyright laws in all of the ways available to us. As you know, there is also Jack Valenti's proposal for a term to last forever less one day. Perhaps the Committee may look at that next Congress."

"Revolution Kind" is magnificent too...
Next time you hear "I got you babe" pay paricular attention to the drums- some of the loudest ever committed to vinyl- oh and the b-side "it's gonna rain" is a great slice of garage band psychedelia.

Yup, he gets respect from me...

nineteen years pass...

Disappointed to learn that he was 5’5” as I’m extremely tempted by this suit that’s up for auction, along with an incredible collection of other old TV costumes and props: https://entertainment.ha.com/itm/movie-tv-memorabilia/costumes/sonny-bono-bob-mackie-velvet-patchwork-blazer-trousers-and-blue-shirt-from-the-sonny-and-cher-show-cbs-tv-1976-1977-/a/7318-89198.s?ic16=ViewItem-BrowseTabs-Auction-Open-ThisAuction-120115
