wild maverick talents with little regard for their welfare or sanity. But who has the coolest stories?

Particularly fond of an ODB interview on MTV where he was a guest with Pras Fugee in the Big Baby Jesus era.
Caller: "Yeah, I've been hearing about the community, how Pras has been like, in projects, setting up projects for the community, what's youre next thing for, like the community?"
dirty; [Puzzled look] "Me? Nuttin'...."

ODB wins, if only for the time he took MTV with him in his limo (right after Enter the Wu Tang went gold or platinum, just prior to his first solo coming out) to pick up his welfare check.

Runner up: gate crashing Sean Colvin's Grammy acceptance speech. For the kids, of course.

I'm on Keith's side all the way. He had a sense of humour and a twinkle in his eye rather than just simply being self destructive.

Fave story was when he was staying in a hotel and managed to get hold of the special spanner that was used to put all the rooms together (one of the roadies used to work for the firm that built them). Took the whole room apart - all the furniture and fittings, including the floor and put everything into the bathroom and out on the balcony. All that was left was a bare concrete box. Calmly phoned down to the manager and asked him to comeup as he had a small problem with his room. Manager came up, walked into the room and fell flat on his face because the floor level was now 1 foot lower than before. Keith just stands there and asks if he could possibly have another room as this one isn't suitable.

Genius.

ODB (mis)quoting Austin Powers to a judge at a sentencing hearing: "Do you find me horny, baby?"

Keith Moon wins, for having a book about him called 'Moon the Loon'

Can't they just both coexist? Why do we have to take sides? If I had to take sides it'd be Keith Moon, for being better looking and more talented, but he never ever wrote a line like "Baby you know I'll take care of you, cos you say you got my baby and I know it ain't true" or did unrecognizable Phil Collins covers.

ODB almost set himself on fire on national television.

Keith Moon deafened his bandmate on national television.

Sorry, it's a tie!

"Baby you know I'll take care of you, cos you say you got my baby and I know it ain't true"

But, but, but...that's what makes him grate! ;]

I mean..."I don't have no problem with you fuckin me, but I got a problem with you not fuckin me." Genius. The man's got more style than Joan Rivers.

But I agree. All the freaks, weirdos, and maniacs can co-exist in one peacable kingdom.

jess, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I know that's what makes him great. That's why I quoted it.

Ally, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Moon. Don't step.

JM, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

odb is funnier and smarter, but 'i need you' is miles above fucking 'dog shit'. so, a predictable draw.

ethan, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Keith Moon.

Lindsey B, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

And ODB is smarter than keith Moon how?

Ally, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

ODB is indisputably classic. But only when he takes apart an entire hotel room or, better still, nails every bit of furniture in the hotel room to the fucking ceiling, then he'll be Keith Moon's equal.

Still, I'd listen to Wu Tang over the Who, any day.

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I love the Keith stories. I mean, calling up the busboys to stand outside your room and then proceed to lock the door and break every item in it, because they didn't bring you your towels fast enough? I hope to live that life someday.
