Hmmmmmmm. Interesting.

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 11:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Nice list.

calstars (calstars), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 11:20 (twenty-two years ago)

still working on getting 10 of these songs, when I have them it'll be finished, but this is what it's gonna look like

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 11:20 (twenty-two years ago)

trades etc. welcome etc.

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 11:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I miss 1989.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

trades etc. welcome etc.
I'm sorely tempted. But I have four other trades to deal with in another thread first.

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 12:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Nice mix....thank you for reminding me of Stezo!! I love that song...Only song I think is missing is "Patience" by G n R which ruled all my middle school dances that year.

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

"Patience" is '88. that's why there's no "Voodoo Ray" or N.W.A, either

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 15:08 (twenty-two years ago)

AMG has GnR Lies as 89....but that could be a mistake or are you talking about when the single was released....either way, your mix will get along fine with or without Axl...nice job.

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

AMG's date is wrong--it sez 88 on the CD. I checked! I wanted to include "Patience" and almost did till I ran into that.

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 15:17 (twenty-two years ago)

similarly, I was gonna go with "Doowutchyalike" until I read the liner notes of It's Still Workin': Tommy Boy's Classic Cuts and found out "The Humpty Dance" was released 11/89--I'd always assumed it was '90. thus its inclusion (also I only have the 8-minute "Doowutchyalike" and "THD" is 4 and a half)

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

39. Rhythm Device: “Acid Rock”

Ha! Fantastic record. In fact, best of the bunch. I wonder what good old Frank De Wulf is doing these days, he seems to have disappeared from view completely after circa 1996.

Siegbran (eofor), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a particular fondness for this year. Great tunes, excellent list. But no Kate Bush, Sensual World or Electribe 101, Tell Me When The Fever Ended'?

David Merryweather (DavidM), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

don't have either, sorry.

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 18:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, you really must have This Woman's Work

Also Pavement's Box Elder and The Pastels' Nothing To Be Done.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 20:32 (twenty-two years ago)

And S Express - Hey Music Lover

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 20:33 (twenty-two years ago)

This is a tremendous list, but I would have liked to see a song from Warrant's Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich and Motley Crue's Dr. Feelgood on here.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 20:36 (twenty-two years ago)

The Sundays - Can't Be Sure
The Wedding Present - What Have I Said Now?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 20:36 (twenty-two years ago)

And fuck you all - the original recording of Sit Down.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 20:37 (twenty-two years ago)

oh and the tremendous list I'm referring to is the Matos one.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 20:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Lil' Louis - French Kiss

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 20:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Adeva - Warning
The Kitchens Of Distinction - The Third Time We Opened The Capsule

OK, I'll stop now.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 20:42 (twenty-two years ago)

"French Kiss" is track 34. I am kicking myself for forgetting "Box Elder," the rest of the suggestions so far I either don't know or don't care about.

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Just cuz you can't use aquanet...

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 21:21 (twenty-two years ago)

just cuz you've used entirely too much of it...

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 21:22 (twenty-two years ago)

also, I was aware of my lack of hair metal and knew it would get kicked at, just as I would do if someone else had made the thing. but I was already going way too long just w/what I had and had to stop somewhere/sometime. also, remember, there are nine songs I'm actually still missing--when those get added I'll finish. it's entirely conceivable that I'll have added some things by then.

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 21:23 (twenty-two years ago)

added some MORE things, I mean

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 21:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll just recommend "Down Boys."

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 21:28 (twenty-two years ago)

great year

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 21:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry Matos - I thought I did a find on 'French'. Glad to see it's there.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 22:05 (twenty-two years ago)

special thanks to Michael Daddino, without whom this would look completely different.

Shh! You're giving away the secret of the ooze!

Geir, your list does not adhere to the one-artist-per-CDR rule and hence is invalid. BZZZT! (But actually I'm tickled that you did one.)

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 22:30 (twenty-two years ago)

starts with spike lee and ends with david lynch! bravo!

cinniblount (James Blount), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 22:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd definitely made room for 'kickstart my heart' and didn't the superduper 'buddy' come out in early 1990?

cinniblount (James Blount), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 22:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Well '3 Feet and Rising' came out in 89, but I don't know about that mix. Actually, wasn't Buddy a non-hit single before the album?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 22:37 (twenty-two years ago)

where geir got right and matos got wrong: aerosmith

where matos got right and geir got wrong: evrything else

cinniblount (James Blount), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 22:38 (twenty-two years ago)

no neneh cherry :(

no martika k-:(

cinniblount (James Blount), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 22:41 (twenty-two years ago)

And fuck you all - the original recording of Sit Down.

For that, N, I hug you.....

Gotta disagree with Geir's inclusion of Like A Prayer. God, that song irritated the hell out of me.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 22:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Steve Poindexter - Work That Muthafucker

Andy K (Andy K), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 23:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Madonna will never make a better song than "Like a Prayer" ever.
We both included "Janie's Got a Gun," he just put "Love in an Elevator" there too (which I almost did, actually, but hey).
"Buddy" remix is '89, not '90. the pre-3 Feet singles were "Plug Tunin'," "Jenifa" and "Potholes in My Lawn"

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 23:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Like A Prayer is pretty meh except for the 'it's like an angel sighing' line. Hmm.. listening to it again I guess the verses are nice but there's something v.annoying about the pop-gospel singalong aspect.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 09:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Re: Geir's list: I'm glad someone else rates Macca's Flowers in the Dirt LP.

David Merryweather (DavidM), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 17:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Madonna will never make a better song than "Like a Prayer" ever.

She did, several times, the same year she made "Like a Prayer". Check my list upthread for evidence :-)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 21:26 (twenty-one years ago)

haha "evidence"

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

The use of "evidence" was a bit tongue-in-cheek anyway :-)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 22:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Some Sonic Temple-era Cult (Firewoman, Sun King, Edie) perhaps?

Robyn Hitchcock? (Madonna Of The Wasps, Freeze, etc.)

No The The?!?!?

Peter Murphy's Cuts You Up!!

Post-Modern MTV to thread.....

turkey (turkey), Thursday, 9 October 2003 07:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I hate all those artists!
