probably not. that sort of lacks the reverence you'd expect if they really were.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 18:16 (twenty-one years ago)

They're playing a festival in Iceland later this month, according to the Web site.

Oops - that was in 2002. My bad.

Last time I checked, the Hives were Law. Does that mean law is dead?

Nick Mirov (nick), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 18:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Is Murdock indie?

Mike Taylor (mjt), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 18:26 (twenty-one years ago)

when the Hives commit a crime then there is no Law.

Did they ever get their label issues wrapped up? I believe Burning Heart and Warner Bros. or Universal were having a bit of a tangle over these guys.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 19:44 (twenty-one years ago)

they might be wise to pack it in... or radically change or something... i can't imagine them putting out another record like the last 2 and getting much of an enthusiastic response.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 20:48 (twenty-one years ago)

i believe that veni vidi vicious didn't sell as much as it was supposed to. i mean, they were everywhere at once, and it didn't even go gold, or did it? just curious. at any rate, i agree with what fritz just said.

reo fordecor, Wednesday, 8 October 2003 22:28 (twenty-one years ago)

the problem with fritz's mentalist post is that the hives were putting out the same records for 5 years before anyone took notice and put their 2 year old album (released 2000) into heavy USA/UK commercial channel exposure (2002).

i also take issue with bands changing or packing it in merely to satisfy the whims of commercial success. do record sales define a band's ability to write good songs? fritz, what do you think of AC/DC?

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 22:35 (twenty-one years ago)

VVV didn't sell because "your new favourite band" sold instead. that compilation is pretty much the only reason Poptones is still in existence.

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 22:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Hives - always been dead musically

DJ Martian (djmartian), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 22:57 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, if dead = unstoppable brain-eating ROBOT ZOMBIE

nate detritus (natedetritus), Thursday, 9 October 2003 01:10 (twenty-one years ago)

good point, gygax... i love ac/dc, ramones, chuck berry, johnny cash, jesus and mary chain & many other 2-trick ponys so i wouldn't so much be bothered personally if they released veni vedi veci II but i don't know if critics/indie kids have as high a toleration for repition now as perhaps they should

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Thursday, 9 October 2003 01:31 (twenty-one years ago)

The Hives? Are they like the Vines? Can't keep 'em straight.
