Mike Taylor (mjt), Thursday, 9 October 2003 20:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Taking sides: late 80s minimalist US acid vs mid 90s full-on Euro acid.

Siegbran (eofor), Thursday, 9 October 2003 21:39 (twenty-one years ago)

80s minimal but i do love the hardfloor mix of yeke yeke still

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 9 October 2003 21:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I have to go with 80's minimal, I think it is a bit more stark and horrible. I just like how primitive and raw this stuff sounds. They were using the most garbage technology they could get their hands on and the records sound horrible. Word to the 707 kick drum!

Disco Nihilist (mjt), Thursday, 9 October 2003 22:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Much as I love original Chicago stuff, I like how the Euro producers made acid into more than just a sub-genre of house. I bet the Chicago folks never even dreamed that there could be such a thing as "ambient acid", but Air Liquide went on and did it anyway.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Phreak by...somebody
anything on Catalyst

oops (Oops), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:16 (twenty-one years ago)

some of these tunes don't have a 303 on them so i'm reluctant to refer to those as acid trax, but that's my pedantism

stevem (blueski), Friday, 10 October 2003 11:33 (twenty-one years ago)

or what about the psycho-hardcore acid ala DropBass , or even some of the harder Euro stuff like J.Burger/Structure, T.Heckmann/Trope - I'm guessing not as popular on this list..

also I cant believe nobody mentioned Humanoid yet- Brian Dougans' acid & expiremental-techno stuff in the mid to late 80's before he became half of FSOL. Excellent comp/reissue of the Humanoid stuff out earlier this year on Rephlex!

pete from the street, Friday, 10 October 2003 13:11 (twenty-one years ago)

i extend the definition to anything that is delirious or nasty or dark, at least in reference to chicago. is there a difference between "fantasy girl" and "dream girl" by Pierre's...? I have only heard "fantasy" and I love it. also, I second "Baby Wants to Ride".

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Friday, 10 October 2003 13:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Sunday, 15 May 2005 07:26 (twenty years ago)

Bobby Konders-Nervous Acid

You know, I did a party a few years ago dedicated to a sort of late 80s UK/madchester hacienda acid vibe. A friend played all these baggie pants remixes and I played 808 State. I thought M.E.S.H. was going to totally kill, I thought people would be like, "wow! I haven't heard that in ages". But in completely cleared the room.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Sunday, 15 May 2005 07:32 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, it's weird, sometimes the things that you think are just flawless don't pan out- last night I was DJing (early) at this party and I put on Maurice's "This Is Acid" (the K&T mix) and it just cleared the floor- I found that a bit of a shock really. They liked the harder, noisier newer things like James T. Cotton and Audion and Titonton Duvanté and stuff.

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Sunday, 15 May 2005 07:38 (twenty years ago)

No Harthouse on this thread!

xpost Drew I don't know those songs. I am clairly ready for some aciducation.

APOCOLYPSE

We were talking about this track recently on another acid house thread -- it's one of my fave house tracks EVAH (that mix in particular).

System 7 -- Alpha Wave (Plastikman Acid Mix)

Is LCD Soundsystem -- Yeah (Stupid Version) considered acid?
