Heard a few days ago Nore's "Nothin'" in da club, and while I danced to it for the umpteenth time, for the first time (yeah, I can be slow like that) I actually took notice of the "Hey now, you're an allstar" line and thought - SMASHMOUTH!!!

Other examples?

Was Chino XL the guy who did what might as well have been a rap cover of Radiohead's "Creep"?

What was that bad Q-Tip song a few years back with "Big Yellow Taxi" in it?

antexit (antexit), Thursday, 9 October 2003 19:16 (twenty-two years ago)

you mean that great Janet Jackson song w/Q-Tip on it. "Got Til It's Gone"

Not a straight quote, but Joe Budden says something like 'the streets moulded me, gave me a better pedigree, now shit be complicated like Avril Lavigne said it be'.

"Nothin'" also mentions Creed (though doesn't quote them).

Frank Kogan (Frank Kogan), Friday, 10 October 2003 03:03 (twenty-two years ago)

"Boy, you really got me going
You got me so I don't know what I'm doing"

-Salt 'n' Pepa, "Push It"

Something tells me that Ghostface Killah versioning "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" would be the best thing ever

House Of Pain drop the words - 'like a natural woman' and 'I don't have a gun' on their second album.

And Lil' Kim semi-chants 'I got to keep on moving' from 'Break My Stride' on that recent faux-old skool single from Christina. Though that guy wasn't really white, was he?

Oh, and Louis Theroux refers to 'Red Red Wine' on his 'Fiat Rap'.

Not the best examples, I know, but I'll think of more ...

"I've got the brains
You've got the looks
Let's make some money.
We are the game (?)
We are the crooks
Let's take all their money."

Majesticons: "Brains Party"

How about jackin' white pop vocal melodies?

KRS-One on BDP's The Bridge is Over lifts Billy Joel

"What's the matter with your MC, Marley Marl?
Don't know you know that he's out of touch
What's the matter with your DJ, MC Shan?
On the wheels of steel Marlon sucks
You'd better change what comes out your speaker
You're better off talkin bout your wack Puma sneaker
Cause Bronx created hip-hop, Queens will only get dropped
You're still tellin lies to me
Everybody's talkin bout the Juice Crew funny
But you're still tellin lies to me"
