...comes this quote:

"NME is the most authoritative weekly music magazine aimed at 15-24 music fans"

Jim Robinson (Original Miscreant), Thursday, 9 October 2003 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

It probably is.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 9 October 2003 19:20 (twenty-one years ago)

What about Private Eye?

adaml (adaml), Thursday, 9 October 2003 19:34 (twenty-one years ago)

i wouldve thought they had more readers than that!
**rimshot**
thank you, thank you
youve been wonderful, really

Felcher (Felcher), Thursday, 9 October 2003 20:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I have to say that was very funny. I'm even more amused by your email addy, Felcher - I'm picturing a 'battle royale' style cage match with wang chung and aha and it's making me laugh right now...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 10 October 2003 07:37 (twenty-one years ago)

i think A-Ha would win that soundclash

mentalist (mentalist), Friday, 10 October 2003 07:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Felcher: that was my point.

Jim Robinson (Original Miscreant), Friday, 10 October 2003 10:18 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't think there are actually 15-24 music fans in the world

Discuss.

I don't see how the NME can consider itself authoritative when it reports on Karen O bumping her arse but not the Bands Against Bush International Day of Action.

No, really. Careless Talk Costs Lives thought it was important.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Saturday, 11 October 2003 00:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Who wants anyone to try to be 'authoritative'? I emphasise 'try'.

And I didn't start this thread to slag NME, but to point out the slip-up in the quote. I kinda think slagging NME is akin to complaining that there are roadworks on the M4 when you're climbing Ben Nevis.

And in my humble, CTCL was *important*, if only for demonstrating that a) there are other people out there - call it a 'market' if you will - and b) underlining to a generation or two of writers and readers that there are other outlets and means of expression.
