The Bled ... a must hear!

The Bled's Pass the Flask is one of the best records I've heard all year -- have to give 'em props here. A big surprise, since these guys are a bunch of really young dudes from Tucson, known more for the Calexico/Giant Sand thing than hardcore/emo/new-prog. The band hoivers somewhere between the Mars Volta, Poison the Well and old-school prog. Really good lyrics and tricky stuff with tempos and arrangements. Much more sohpishticated than your average hardcore shit. Worth checking out.

Poison the Well is an accurate comparison. I don't know about the Mars Volta, the Bled are much more down to earth. Although the lyrics are straight from ATDI/MV. It's alright for a debut record, very solid hardcore, but nothing mind blowing.

I wouldn't call the album mindblowing either, but I refer to it as a must hear because Phoenix-Tucson is increasingly a hardcore-happy touring area, so I get excited when a band tries something ambitious like this. I like the way Jeremy Talley meshes his lyrics to refer to each other throughtout and how he makes his metaphors evocative and ambiguous at the same time. That's where the MV reference comes in. "You Know Who's Seatbelt" and "Porcelain Hearts and Hammers For Teeth" are legitimately great songs.

Its the truth, I havent taken Pass The Flask out of my cd player for a long fucking time. The third song is so fucking killer. Every guitar riff is so stellar, and they have such an amazing style. I love how its not catchy till you hear it for the 2nd time. Thats the perfect place to be to where you can listen to it over and over and just take it all in. Im no hippy. I said that cuz I totally sound like it. I would love to meet these guys and just bow cuz they have to be assholes. FUCK! I love this CD!

I am truly baffled. i downloaded this because of all the praise here on ILM, and the first thing that came to my mind is that no one here has ever heard any 'classic' (by which I mean canonical, not necessarily 'good') emocore. What exactly seperates this from all the stuff on Bloodlink, Three One G, Ebullition, etc aside from the fact that it's WAY less interesting?

I don't get it

I went to a show a while back at st.andrews, the bled, the kinison and murder by death played, the bled has become not only one of my favorite bands, but one of the most respected out of lots of my local lovely bands, they have some true talent, and thats not the only album thats good, try his first crush.
