If you were at an outdoor festival in an open field, what kind of music should be playing?

Not much love for jam bands around these parts.. But as I listened to QMS this morning, I thought (paraphrasing):

Long jams really lend themselves to being outdoors in the Autumn, with bonfire, beer and maybe a roasted pig.

So in that setting, I'll take the Allman Brothers over (whatever) Kylie...

What music is setting-dependent? Something you wouldn't normally put on, but is perfect in a certain place.

("Radiohead: perfect in Hell." OK - haha, I said it, joke's over.)

Medeski Martin and Wood are one of my favorite bands in that they can take any setting - dingy falling apart brick-walled urban club, big outdoor festival, a concert hall usually occupied by a philharmonic, a solar powered shack in Hawaii - and not just rock it out, but tailor their sound to be most appropriate for that venue. Awesome.

the city I live in is basically in the middle of an open field, so I speak from deep knowledge and contemplation when I say open fields are overrated.
but I wouldn't kick MMW out of my field.

(Feel free to relate question to settings other than an open field. A dank basement, for example.)

if you think open fields are overrated though, you should check out closed fields...whooo, they stink.

I hope when I finally get to see Lightning Bolt it's in a tiny dingy basement.

The beautiful kind.

I saw Lightning Bolt in a fairly large dingy basement like area (which was awesome), but Arab on Radar right after them was even more awesome and fit perfectly with the surroundings.

I could totally see that.

I've seen Wolf Eyes in a vaguely basementy setting and I don't think anything could have been more appropriate.
