well when i was a kid i thought she was a witch. since then there's always been one taylor dane-alike on the radio... for a while it was anastacia and now i think it must be boomkat. nikka kosta may or may not fit into this continuum, i can't decide. brassy is like the grand royal version. come to think of it, brassy is a good word to describe this entire ilk. but who was the taylor dane before taylor dane?

She's a scary Amazonian Harpee-Medusa!

IIRC i think she had some sort of comeback and was looking kinda sexay

JasonD (JasonD), Friday, 10 October 2003 18:32 (twenty-two years ago)

...if you're into that whole vengeful she-Hulk aesthetic.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 10 October 2003 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Janis Joplin obviously.

Siegbran (eofor), Friday, 10 October 2003 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Laura Branigan?

stevem (blueski), Friday, 10 October 2003 19:47 (twenty-two years ago)

definitely Laura Branigan. And it's Taylor Dayne, by the way.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 10 October 2003 20:29 (twenty-two years ago)

though Dayne was definitely more Jersey.

Was it Rosie Vela?

udu wudu (udu wudu), Friday, 10 October 2003 20:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Rosie Vela had a much better voice and was a bajillion times better looking that Taylor "Great" Dane, and had the good taste to wear a Bauhaus t-shirt in one of her early clips (and yes, I think it was sported in earnest). That she later sang back-up for a stumbling incarnation of ELO should be forgiven.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 10 October 2003 20:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Donald Fagen and Walter Becker played on Vela's Zazu (and various other SD associates contributed to the record). It's kinda not that bad... reminds me more of Kate Bush than Taylor Dayne, though.

Annouschka Magnatech (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 10 October 2003 21:51 (twenty-two years ago)

though Dayne was definitely more Jersey.

...if by Jersey you mean Long Island.

Annouschka Magnatech (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 10 October 2003 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

she's more that too.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 10 October 2003 21:55 (twenty-two years ago)

she's also more awaaaaooowoahwoahwoahwoahoooowoahwoah.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 10 October 2003 21:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Post -Laura/pre-Taylor: E.G. Daily. How come she never became a huge star? Was she too pixieish and annoying?

My friend John went to school with Taylor on Long Island. He said she was a crazy, fun-loving fag hag--wow, big surprise. I think she's great.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 11 October 2003 22:52 (twenty-two years ago)

She's on Broadway these days: http://www.homestead.com/taylordayne3/aida.html

Bob Crain (bobcrain), Sunday, 12 October 2003 22:23 (twenty-two years ago)

there's was a short lived game show on the USA network that she sang a song on around 1999. I'd miss her a lot more if I hadn't heard that.
