robin (robin), Sunday, 12 October 2003 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Nice! No Boston gig!

I'm not going to worry about it though, it's not really a big college town.

nader (nader), Sunday, 12 October 2003 21:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyone checked out Superpitcher play live?

Angus Macdonald (Gutta_Funk), Monday, 13 October 2003 09:52 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
Milk is quite possibly the worst club in town. This show has the Justice League written all over it.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

It's on Haight, right?

adaml (adaml), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 18:24 (twenty-one years ago)

too bad the Justice League ALWAYS smells of puke. but if Milk is what used to be Galaxy, then it is on Haight across from Amoeba and yes, it's just an ok club.

JasonD (JasonD), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 18:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, it's a real shithole... used to be the relocated I-Beam (the original I-Beam was a couple blocks down Haight), then the Boomerang and most recently the Galaxy Club (which always seemed to be blaring "dot com" house/sub-paul van dyk when i walked by).

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 18:53 (twenty-one years ago)

xp

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 18:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, I'm still going! :)

adaml (adaml), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 19:19 (twenty-one years ago)

happy thanksgiving

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 20:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, thanks for reminding me. I actually might be in Seattle over Thanksgiving. oops.

adaml (adaml), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

APT is a suXoR venue also but i will go regardless

geeta (geeta), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 20:11 (twenty-one years ago)

oh fucking hell. you're so right about Thanksgiving. i'll be in LA. fucking family!

JasonD (JasonD), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha no family in Seattle so I am FREE to go to LA and/or SF for these shows! Who wants to put me up? [[crickets]]

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

That LA show does look very tempting...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 21:06 (twenty-one years ago)

...Well maybe we will come down to LA for the Saturday show- the idea was that we were going to go on a roadtrip to "mark" Thanksgiving, seeing as Sarah's family are all in the Midwest.

hmmm....

*ponders*

adaml (adaml), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I think a proper visit to us peoples down here is LONG overdue, Mr. formerlynordic

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 22:12 (twenty-one years ago)

hey, me too! plus supersecret spy Spencer Chow was saying at the NYC FAP that I had to come there, so...

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 22:15 (twenty-one years ago)

My sentiments exactly. I will see what I can do...

adaml (adaml), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 22:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I just need to find places to stay in SF and/or LA.

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 22:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Matos, we'd put you up here in Berkeley, only it's errrrrr, kind of cramped, plus our plans for that weekend are somewhat up in the air. Drop me a line if you need to, though:
laststandrecords at hotmail.

adaml (adaml), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 22:19 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks, will do. I might have a couple other angles to try.

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 22:22 (twenty-one years ago)

who are these jingleberries?

Dean Gulberry (deangulberry), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 19:13 (twenty-one years ago)

dude! i just got my ticket for the show at APT -- tickets are only $5! you can get 'em at other music.

who all will be there?

geeta (geeta), Thursday, 6 November 2003 06:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm working on getting tix for the APT gig (being as I live in Boston, I had to ask a friend who lives on St. Mark's to run around the corner and grab me a pair).

Do you think it'll sell out (I imagine you bouthg advance tickets for a reason)? Its proximity to Thanksgiving says no, but the fact that it's the Kompakt heavyweights says maybe...

nader (nader), Friday, 7 November 2003 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

uh, that's bought, not bouthg...

nader (nader), Friday, 7 November 2003 18:48 (twenty-one years ago)

again, who are these jingleberries?

Dean Gulberry (deangulberry), Friday, 7 November 2003 20:07 (twenty-one years ago)

two dudes from cologne germany that have been making unusually subtle dance music for quite some time. together they own/operate the kompakt label. voight is known more famously in the usa as mike ink, gas or together with jorg(?) burger as burger/ink, for whom matador (indie rock only!) records licensed their LP las vegas for american audiences which seemed to increase the hype with college/public radio stateside.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 7 November 2003 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

and on the 6th day philip sherburne described the above as "microhouse" in the wire and the AMG/ILM axis volleyed salvos of critical semen everywhere and noone really ever cleaned it up. so grab a mop and get to it.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 7 November 2003 20:21 (twenty-one years ago)

So...errr, where can I get tickets, gygax!?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 7 November 2003 21:27 (twenty-one years ago)

info@milksf.com

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 7 November 2003 21:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Note: Wolfgang Voigt (aka mike/ink, Gas, etc) /= Reinhard Voigt (Triple R) (who is, I believe, his brother). < / pedantry >

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 7 November 2003 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

aha, my mistake. i apologize verily to all misled by my approximations upthread.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 7 November 2003 21:36 (twenty-one years ago)

and i'm very glad you pointed that critical mistake out because there is QUITE a bit of difference in Wolfgang Voigt and Reinhard Voigt.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 7 November 2003 21:39 (twenty-one years ago)

and jon voigt.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 7 November 2003 22:51 (twenty-one years ago)

hmmm, I thought Triple R was someone named Reinhard Riley Reingold. same guy, then?

M Matos (M Matos), Friday, 7 November 2003 23:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Triple R is a third guy again, he's the head of the Trapez label.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 7 November 2003 23:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I see ! Thanks gygax.

That description reminds me of Something For Rockets. Hopefully, they do not also sound like SFR. Woof.

Dean Gulberry (deangulberry), Saturday, 8 November 2003 00:17 (twenty-one years ago)

So Reinhard is going to play bangy stuff and Mayer is going to play shimmery stuff, right?

Lukas (lukas), Sunday, 9 November 2003 10:45 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm in. so where can i buy kompakt cds in LA? i always find loads of used/new 12"'s at amoeba, but never cds.

pb, Sunday, 9 November 2003 11:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Reinhard played bangey stuff, sometimes verging on pretty boring imo. For some reason, I thought it would be all textured and micro-housey but when I walked in the room I thought "I could have heard this at a bad rave about 6 years ago." It did get better though, and Mayer dropped some good shufflely stuff that had people on the dancefloor going... "hunh?......ahhh!" and then really getting into it. Actually, the crowd was really into it the whole night, which made even the more boring stuff pretty tolerable.

Elliot (Elliot), Sunday, 9 November 2003 21:06 (twenty-one years ago)

(this was about 6 weeks ago in Montreal btw)

Elliot (Elliot), Sunday, 9 November 2003 21:07 (twenty-one years ago)

voigt is pretty minimal, but if you like his albums then you'll probably like his dj sets. but yeah, there's very little to set him apart from straight up techno a lot of the time.

goato mountington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 9 November 2003 21:08 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, I guess I didn't expect that. Then again the only thing I'd heard before was his track on total 3, which is amazing, but more in the typical cologne-type minimal house way.

Elliot (Elliot), Sunday, 9 November 2003 21:14 (twenty-one years ago)

THIS IS APPARENTLY NOT AT CLUB MILK! It's at Club 6ix and $10.

Link to Blasthaus: HERE!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 13 November 2003 00:02 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks for the heads up, Alex.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 November 2003 00:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not sure I'll be in town that weekend! Will know in a few days.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 13 November 2003 01:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Voigt is playing live and Mayer is DJing, is the way I've heard it's supposed to happen.

Andy, Thursday, 13 November 2003 02:04 (twenty-one years ago)

so I'm getting my flight to SF booked right now, and I believe staying-with plans have been made too. I'll have more details soon, but right now plans are to fly out at 7pm Friday, arrive around 9, and I think go straight to the place I'm staying and then the club. any meetup plans yet?

M Matos (M Matos), Thursday, 13 November 2003 02:17 (twenty-one years ago)

and I will be returning to Seattle on an 8am flight Sunday morning, so my Saturday night is totally free; I will probably want to just stay out/up all night and go to the airport at 5 or 6am. so if you have suggestions for that, let me know too.

M Matos (M Matos), Thursday, 13 November 2003 02:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Crystal meth?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 13 November 2003 02:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahaha I just realized I am totally irony impaired. Sorry.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 13 November 2003 02:20 (twenty-one years ago)

no, that was funny! but I have plenty of energy on my own, thanks.

M Matos (M Matos), Thursday, 13 November 2003 02:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Matos in SF 11/28-9. FAP?

M Matos (M Matos), Thursday, 13 November 2003 02:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Nice one! NYC gig @ APT here I come! (Managed to convince an otherwise electronic music-hatin' friend to grab me a pair...OK...five tickets). My unhealthy fascination with M.Mayer (and all things KOMPAKT) will soon/finally be fulfilled in-person.

Can anyone think of/suggest a Web site/publication that might want some pictures from said event?

(NOTE: I once worked as the Boston correspondent/photographer of (now home to a diet pill, but once the shiznit and thankfully archived) Skinny.com). That's my pic of Mixmaster Morris at the top (which if I remember correctly also made its way to URB).

nader (nader), Thursday, 13 November 2003 17:17 (twenty-one years ago)

"i'm in. so where can i buy kompakt cds in LA? i always find loads of used/new 12"'s at amoeba, but never cds. "

good luck pb

so far all I have found as far as cds go in LA was at Amoeba and then only seemingly by accident. They do always have kaito which is on Kompakt, but everything else is hit and miss. I know some of the guys there and they just don't seem interested in ordering it.

All my recent purchases have been through forced exposure but aquarius records in SF does have a few things and they do online ordering as well.

hector (hector), Thursday, 13 November 2003 19:05 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm really glad glasgow has optimo / good djs cos i figure these are the ppl hassling the record shops to stock this stuff.

athos magnani (Cozen), Thursday, 13 November 2003 19:23 (twenty-one years ago)

tower records seems to stock kompakt releases fairly regularly in san diego BUT they file them in rock/pop instead of dance. often they're filed under title (so that total 3 will end up under "kompakt"). i have no idea if they do that in LA or not.

thanks hector, now i have to drive up to LA to get kaito!

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 13 November 2003 19:31 (twenty-one years ago)

(i can't wait until the 29th! i can't wait another day!)

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 13 November 2003 19:32 (twenty-one years ago)

or alt.: the ppl who run our record stores just have good taste from the off!

athos magnani (Cozen), Thursday, 13 November 2003 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Paul Kennedy (who gets called Paul Sci-Fi Soul sometimes around here) is Tower's imports buyer, and a BIG Kompakt fan, so he makes sure they're in stock always.

M Matos (M Matos), Thursday, 13 November 2003 19:41 (twenty-one years ago)

for a soulless corporate giant the two tower locations in sd both have a nice staff and great selection - though everything is 5$ too expensive. i'll probably get superlongevity 3 there and it'll probably be 24.99.

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 13 November 2003 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

If you don't know, now you know: Michael Mayer's 9-27-03 Paxahau set archived here: [ http://www.paxahau.com/node.htm ] Good gracious! There appear to be two sets (plus one R.Voigt!)!

Maybe a harbinger of sets to come? (The second one's sick so far, that is at 13:44 in).

Oh, to have this on disc...

nader (nader), Thursday, 13 November 2003 22:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh and I will, I will have this on disc (clicks on the "product" icon and ta-freakin-da):

"You may pick out one high-quality, professionally mastered cd of any dj set in our archives for every $10 donation, including shipping to the U.S. for up to 10 discs..."

nader (nader), Thursday, 13 November 2003 22:21 (twenty-one years ago)

wow! Kero live! wow! Baby Ford x 2! wow! Carl Craig x 2! wow! ectomorph live! wow! sammy dee + zip! wow!

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 13 November 2003 22:29 (twenty-one years ago)

There's a Todd Osborn set on there that's incredible. The date escapes me.

Andy K (Andy K), Thursday, 13 November 2003 22:36 (twenty-one years ago)

(For those who wonder who this Electrifying Mojo character is -- the fellow we Michiganders have yammered about on here -- Osborn starts the set with a bit from a Midnight Funk Association session.)

Andy K (Andy K), Thursday, 13 November 2003 22:40 (twenty-one years ago)

it ends up i can't make the NYC show, so i have two tickets, if anyone wants 'em. they were $5 apiece -- email me offlist if you're interested!

geeta (geeta), Monday, 17 November 2003 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Paxahau
wowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowoowwoowowowowwoow
post this address everywhere!!

vahid hope to see you at the show

hector (hector), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 05:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Traffic prevented my attendance in NYC... Please tell me I didn't miss anything, I'll be too sad. (And then tell everyone else how dope it was and I'll just pretend you aren't.)

nader (nader), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 06:50 (twenty-one years ago)

two months pass...
Michael Mayer is playing tonight at the Pulp club here in Paris. Full report here tomorrow...
