What is the song used in the Target commerical for Virgin Records. It portrays English guards dancing to an mp3 playing a song. What is the name of the song and artist?

music used in current Target XMAS commercial?

allyO, Monday, 5 December 2005 12:49 (twenty years ago)

uhh... As it happens I had the same question two years ago and I found it was made by J.Ralph, a very successful maker of music for ads. It only existed in 30 second form but he got such good feedback he promised to finish it and offer it in some form which he hasn't that I know of.
if anyone still cares the song can be heard by going to http://therumormill.com/
go to selected work > target > guards

"Shapes of Things to Come" was written by Barry Mann and performed by David Allen and The Arrows on the soundtrack of the movie 'Wild In The Streets'

My question is who performs it on the Target TV commercials ? Sounds a bit like The Ramones but their version is at a faster pace.

'Amor' by Los Amigos Invisibles

I thought Shapes of things to come, was a song from the 60s.Didnt they use to play it on the radio?

JIM FINCH, Tuesday, 28 February 2006 01:50 (nineteen years ago)

yes, they played the song (shapes of things to come) on the radio back in 1968...like i said,it was used on a soundtrack for the movie wild in the streets...just to set the records right,we got ripped off !!! each band member had to bring his parents to the court house in la with attorney ,we were under 21 at the time.they still found loop-holes in contract...oh well,......i think that happens to all first time hit's bands...we did it for the love of music, not the money.......barney

Hi Guys

Do you guys know the title and the artist behind the new target commerical song, "Oh possibilities..."

is that the same one you guys are talking about "shapes of things to come" ?

Thanks for the help

Sean Harmon, Wednesday, 15 March 2006 06:21 (nineteen years ago)

The 'possibilities'song is Badly Drawn Boy. It's not the same one they're talking about (totally different commercial). No idea what the song title is, but I'm sure you can track it down.

If I see another Target thread here I'm gonna troll it like only noize dudes know how.

Just so this thread dies right now, the song is called "All Possibilities", and it's on the album called "Have You Fed The Fish?"

I can't believe I just looked that up

The song is called "Coming Home"--it's sang by a group called the88. You can hear the song on their myspace http://www.myspace.com/the88.

In answer to the question of who originally did the song "the shape of things to come" it was "The Yardbirds." You might know a couple people from that band; one was just some guy by the name of "jimmy page" from a little group called "led zeppelin" and the other guy by the name of "jeff beck." do your homework kids.

To Mr. Jorge Samanamud

The Target song, "The Shape of Things to Come" is sung by Max Frost & the Storm Troopers.

The song is available on iTunes..

John De, Wednesday, 24 May 2006 23:43 (nineteen years ago)

You'd think this Barney guy (who obviousyl must just sit around Googling for people who mention his band) would've mentioned the NAME of said band.

mason r butler, Thursday, 25 May 2006 03:03 (nineteen years ago)

The Shape Of Things To Come as used in the Target advert is NOT Shapes Of Things To Come by The Yardbirds. They're not even close to sounding alike except by song title. Do YOUR Homework!

A Kitzmiller, Wednesday, 31 May 2006 02:00 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, and without overstudying the Target advert repeatedly - the song used is The Shape Of Things To Come by Max Frost & The Troopers, not Stormtroopers as mentioned above. And yes, ca. 1968.

A Kitzmiller, Wednesday, 31 May 2006 02:21 (nineteen years ago)

hey i know those doods (the 88)
