ok, i admit it, i was going to do the whole classic or dud blahdy blah for these dudes. but all i really want to know is, right, you know on "Sound Is For The Underground" WHERE does that break come from? because it is the most rocking break ever of all time and stuff.

I dunno. But that song's flipside contains beats sampled from "The Wickedest Sound" by Rebel MC.

Great tune - the vocal sample was from Nona Hendryx I think the lyrics are "this dance that we're dancing now who's in control?"...

I always thought it went "get down before the underground"... I love this tune, it's my favourite old school hardcore tune. Also one of the first I ever heard back in '91 or '92.

I saw them play late last year, it was really good

Am I remembering wrong, or were they called "DJ Krome and Mr. Time" at some point? I think they had some nice jungle tune back in '94... Gotta dust my old CDs.

(x-post)

Whoa, they still exist?!

Tuomas, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 10:56 (eighteen years ago)

there's an old skool/revivalist movement here in which many of the DJs and producers from the original scene still operate.

blueski, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 11:09 (eighteen years ago)

I'm not aware of any new productions but I might well have missed a 12" or something. This applies to almost all the old skoolers on the comeback tip save for Bizzy B and... anyone else?

DJ Mencap, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 11:22 (eighteen years ago)

x-post - Tuomas, those lyrics are from the sample on Krome & Time's "The Slammer", which I figured blueski was referencing on his revival of the thread (because it also has the ganja man lyric as above...I think). Gotta say that the time is certainly upon us for a return to the fun approach of the original rave/hardcore/jungle crossover period.

is this the song with the dog barking, and the whole "say something!...woof!...say something!...woof!" thing?
