Tell me in your myriad ways just how wonderful they were.

Because, let's face it, they .

FITE!

the last beaumont record sounded how i wish st etienne would sound. last two s.e. records have been fantastically dull. i like that they have mined different veins of inspiration but they haven't been successful ventures. wouldn't mind seeing another sarah cracknell solo record actually.

i just listened to finisterre twice in a row!

They were clearly a ripoff of Will To Power

(Actually I have no idea who they are)

Foxbase Alpha was the soundtrack of my first experiences with the herb. I'm curious as to how big a fanbase they had here in the US back then ('94ish) cause it seemed like my friends' and I little secret.

the are fucking magical. and they have so so many great songs.

justin (Justin M), Monday, 13 October 2003 02:37 (twenty-two years ago)

my favourite band ever. EVER. I love Hobart Paving and Hate Your Drug and Finisterre and London Belongs To Me and Split Screen and The Process and Nothing Can Stop Us Now and People Get Real and Mario's Cafe and Jaydip Pharmacy and Suburban Autumn Lieutenant and How We Used To Live (oh!) and Don't Back Down and Woodcabin and B92 and Like a Motorway and Former Lover and oh... I don't listen to them enough. I know I'd be happier if I listened to St Et more often.

St Et are so wonderful. I was so excitied this time, last year for Finisterre to finally come out.. it made me so happy. B92 did it. 'The boys are back in town.. and nothing can stop us now... ooohhhh this is our wall of sound.' wow. And The Way We Live Now, how it all builds up, and you think it'll be an inconsequential bit of sound until Sarah starts in at the 3 min. mark and the chords all go to added 4ths. mmf.

they are splendid. live two years ago they were the cheesiest thing I'd ever seen in my life and I still loved it. The Sound of Water and the Good Life seem to be the pinnacles of their work to me, two sides of the same luscious coin, and I don't know where they were supposed to go from there. I didn't much like where they did go on Finisterre.

regarding the US vs UK following, i used to be on the st et mailing list and most of the US and Canadian fans were into the later post-tiger Bay stuff, whereas i reckon the first 2 albums are held in highest esteem by UK fans. also interesting is that a large proprtion of the North American fans were gay, whereas I wouldn't say that they would proabably have a larger than average gay following in the UK, but certainly not as big they seem to have in north america

"fife coast" is such a lovely tune

Consistently wonderful, inspiring and effortlessly life-affirming. (email address a giveaway, natch, though there is the double entendre of the French footy reference, European Cup Final fans)
