I asked for the latest Danielle Dax single back in mid 80's and I got "umm, isn't that by Elton John?"....

I can only assume they thought you said I'm Still Standing.

Damian (Damian), Tuesday, 14 October 2003 09:25 (twenty-two years ago)

A friend had sent me a mix tape that included an Ice-T track from Home Invasion*, and I liked it (this was the early 90's), so I went to a store and asked if they had that. The clerk said something like, "I don't think Body Count made any records. That was just kind of a one-off project." Shortly thereafter the whole "Cop Killer" thing blew up. (I never did buy the album, and now am not too interested, though what I've heard from it isn't any worse than a lot of other stuff that gets much more respect.)

*I hope that is the right album title. Whatever album "Cop Killer" was on.

Al Andalous (Al Andalous), Tuesday, 14 October 2003 15:04 (twenty-two years ago)

"we asked for mojo nixon/they said 'he doesn't work here.'"

notfazed (notfazed), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 00:40 (twenty-two years ago)

"Cop Killer" was on O.G. Original Gangster first, then on the self-titled Body Count album.

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 00:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Matos, wasn't the track on OG called "Body Count"??? This will be my biggest act of pedantry on ILM so far, but...

adaml (adaml), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 00:59 (twenty-two years ago)

At any rate, I aske for Body Count and the guy said that there was no Body Count album and he didn't think there was going to be one. I may very well have some facts wrong regarding album titles and so forth, but the gist of it was that I was told that that project was pretty much finished, when in fact there was an album about to come out. The exact details are blurry to me. Hmmm. The song on the mix tape wasn't "Copy Killer," actually.

x-post: Whatever. I mostly lost interest not long after, so it's a little beside the point now.

Al Andalous, Wednesday, 15 October 2003 01:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I stopped asking for albums by Disco Inferno a long time ago.

Sasha (sgh), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 04:08 (twenty-two years ago)

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 04:09 (twenty-two years ago)

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 05:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 05:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 05:25 (twenty-two years ago)

My Dad: Do you have any Klezmer music?
Clerk: What's his first name?

Ben, Wednesday, 15 October 2003 05:49 (twenty-two years ago)

not entirely on-topic but when you guys started talking about the new stereolab about a month ago i went to the record store looking for it. the woman working at the time just refused to believe that there were going to be any more stereolab records, and kept trying to fulfill my request for "the new stereolab" with 'abc music' and the monade cd. so i want to go buy it from her and have her say 'hey weren't you asking for this before, man i am a doofus' but that's not going to happen is it dammit

ron (ron), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 06:45 (twenty-two years ago)

ron (ron), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 06:47 (twenty-two years ago)

*listens to surfaris record, decides to buy it*
wanky assistant: don't get that, you want to get some trashmen records, they are better
me: do you HAVE any trashmen here?
wanky assistant: no

grr. hes always got something to say about what i buy. one day i bought a spice girls tape and he asked me if i was SURE i wanted to buy it.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 06:48 (twenty-two years ago)

"Do you have any Brian Eno albums?"
"Name doesn't sound familiar..."

scott m (mcd), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 13:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Me: Where did you all move the vinyl section to?
Dude: We have vinyl?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 14:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 15:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Unrelated clueless response: The Utah police cop who pulled me over, asked me where my accent was from (England), then told me "Well, you speak pretty good English considering."

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is AMERICA.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd like to think that "that" is just Utah.. but you're probably right.. That is America. Sometimes I hate this place. Well, not this place, just most of the fuckwits who live here. But I guess you get fuckwits everywhere; it's just a matter of what they're ignorant about.

dave225 (Dave225), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

That's Utah, at least.

scott m (mcd), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

oops.

scott m (mcd), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

ha ha this little interchange has brought me much in the way of mirth

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 16:03 (twenty-two years ago)

After I bought Girls Aloud and Tatu in the space of a fortnight, the guy kept asking me every time I went in for about a few months he kept asking if I wanted whatever young stars where on his horizon: Delta Goodrem, Danni Minogue etc.

In the same shop I got, 'I can't believe you're buying that, the cover's rubbish'.

Jim Robinson (Original Miscreant), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 16:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Me, to a Virgin Megastore employee: "Don't laugh at me, I'm deadly serious, but where's Zamfir filed?"

Employee: "Zam-who?"

Me: "The master of the pan flute. Is it in easy listening?"

Employee: "Let me look it up. That's with a Z, right? We should have 2 CDs in Easy Listening."

Me: "Thanks."

Employee: "Yeah, I would have thought children's."

Me: "What?"

Employee: "Baby Beluga and all."

Me: " That's Raffi."
