Luomo live report

So I caught Mr. Delay live at Sala Quick here in Madrid last saturday, and it was pretty much so-so...some DJ named PT-10 kicked things off, bloody amazing: techy, bassy and groovy as fuck (he calls it 'minimal miami')...Luomo was supposed to start at 1:00am, so when PT-10 was still in the decks by 1:30am everyone got a bit antsy...I found Delay and chatted with him for a while, apparently his laptop crashed midset the night before in Barcelona, so he was copying his entire hard drive onto another one...he finally went on at about 2:00, started off with Synkro, and to be quite honest, I think very few people even knew who he was or were as thrilled as I was to finally seeing him live...the place was packed (bout 450 ppl) and everyone pretty much went on dancing quite mellowly and just swaying along to the music...Delay played very little Vocalcity stuff, focusing almost entirely on The Present Lover tracks, cutting and glitching them up almost to the point of overkill, sacrificing flow but still managing to get a good groove on for most of his set...the kicker: he only played for 2 hours cuz his machines were giving him hell (met him at the bar later, said he would have played for at least an hour more), and NO FUCKING TESSIO...

anyhow, it was a good night, but not the one I was expecting, by far...Delay´s got good stage presence too, pretty much looked like he was gonna hump his machines and girls kept eyeing him all night...

cool to hear I am getting more and more into the present lover as time goes on relaxing into it rather than expecting from it.

I saw him a couple of years ago here in LA with AGF very cool live although it could have used something to enhance his presence.

he only played for 2 hours

!!!!!!

two hours is an eternity for a live laptop act!

Yeah how did he play his one-hour album for two hours? He must have stretched those tracks way out.

I will be seeing Luomo here in Singapore on Friday night as part of a festival, with Hecker & Miroque. Really excited, though I fear a similarly subdued reaction from the Singapore clubbing massif.

this is the reason why my move to spain is very necessary. it just all sounds impossibly glamourous!

I can't fucking believe I missed the singapore show. Because of George Bush. Dave, you an sg resident?

two months pass...
MP3 of Luomo live at Ultrahnag festival in Budapest: 2003.09.27

here

watch out though, its 95MB big...

20 minutes in, its been mainly straight renditions of tracks from "the present lover" with not so snazzy revrses and clunky cut ups mid-song. Still for luomo fans, happy xmas.

95MB = 70 minutes. The second half is really good.

Nik (Nik), Thursday, 25 December 2003 12:26 (twenty-one years ago)

but overall its not too special

soooo ... anyone seem luomo live recently? rumour has it he's coming to australia in july, and as neither of the two potential nz promoters can afford to bring him over ... worth jumping the ditch for?
