... a worthy follow-up to über-party track 'Move Your Feet' or the proof that they were a one hit-wonder? Comments?

Not one of the best songs on the album but I like it alright. "Chicks and Dicks" is better than either of these songs, one-hit-wonder though Junior Senior may prove to be.

BTW, have you noticed that the guitar riff on the new Strokes song 'I Can't Win' is an exact replica of the 'Rhythm Bandits' chorus? Coincidence? I DON'T THINK SO!!! :-)

Yeah, far from being one of the stronger tracks on the album. But, I think they still a few hits in them.

The single mix is a big improvement, though. In fact, I like the single mix more than Move Your Feet. Chicks and Dicks is what it's all about, though.

BETTER THAN ASCENDING INTO HEAVEN. BETTER THAN YOUR WHOLE RECORD COLLECTION. SO GOOD IT'S BETTER THAN OTHER STUFF

ILM (Ronan), Thursday, 16 October 2003 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

why do they keep putting out their weakest songs as singles?

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 16 October 2003 14:22 (twenty-one years ago)

it really reminds me of the Avalanches for some reason - sorta thing they could (minus the vocals maybe). one of my faves on the album along with 'Shake Your Coconuts' and 'Boy Meets Girl' - cool video too of course

go junior! go senior!!!

they could put out an disc of whale songs and i wd still love them

geeta (geeta), Thursday, 16 October 2003 18:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I like it a ton.

But has anyone noticed the riff from 'Boy Meets Girl' is 'Chest Fever' by the Band?

Junior Senior in derivation shocka

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 16 October 2003 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

what exactly is weak about this? the snazzy guitar riff? the handclaps? the drumrolls followed by Daft Punk-like synth-entrails? wha?

M Matos (M Matos), Thursday, 16 October 2003 19:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm absolutely with Matos - nothing weak about it unless the single mix is wildly different from the album one. It may even be my favorite on the album now that I've played "Move Your Feet" to death. The chorus is pretty standard for them (which is to say good) but the verses are awesome.

OK, if you like JS, I have a tip for all of you: Check out the song 'Johnny and I' by Superheroes (should be on slsk). It features Senior and is at least as good as any song on the JS album. No kidding!

stuttering is NEVER a bad idea in a song.

two months pass...
This is the song that (just recently) send me scrambling for the JS album. (I never liked "Move Your Feet" very much, and never heard "Coconuts" - though if I had, I sure would've gotten it sooner!) I kept hearing "Rhythm Bandits" at my nite job, and had to find out what it was... out of context, you think it's the theme song for some new Disney kid group (which I would have been quite happy with).

I also want to say (as a total latecomer to the party) that the female backing vox are my favorite element of the Junior Senior sound... they really push the whole thing into "success" mode for me, and are my favorite part of the few tracks I don't care for as much.

Speaking of which, they remind me of how much I love the group Whale! Back then, I hoped and believed that the near future of music would be all sorts of zany groups making goofy, fun, offbeat dance/rock/pop hybrid music. (And maybe they're out there, just unheard by me in the U.S.)
