Robert Smith says he wants the next Cure record to be the "Heaviest album ever made". I'm hoping he means Godspeed you Black Emperor heavy rather than Spinal Tap heavy. What do you think he means?

flowersdie (flowersdie), Thursday, 16 October 2003 11:22 (twenty-two years ago)

heavy?

probably means the band put on *MORE* weight. fat tossers.

st tremaine, Thursday, 16 October 2003 11:26 (twenty-two years ago)

It will be their last record. I heard they were going to break up after this one.

dave225 (Dave225), Thursday, 16 October 2003 11:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I heard that Robert Smith was going to break up the band and then do a series of Weight Watchers commercials with Sarah Ferguson in the States.

st tremaine, Thursday, 16 October 2003 11:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, when Bloodflowers came out, he was going round saying that 'Watching Me Fall' was the heaviest thing they'd ever done, so if that's anything to go by, I am very suspicious. I'm paradoxically pretty excited by Ross Robinosn producing though.

Baaderist (Fabfunk), Thursday, 16 October 2003 11:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Doompatroll,

The NME party line is to like the Cure again, do keep up.

flowersdie (flowersdie), Thursday, 16 October 2003 11:30 (twenty-two years ago)

It will be their last record. I heard they were going to break up after this one.

"Bloodflowers" was supposed to be their last record. They changed their minds, apparently...

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 16 October 2003 11:32 (twenty-two years ago)

"Bloodflowers" was one of a series of "last records".

dave225 (Dave225), Thursday, 16 October 2003 11:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Every Cure record since Disintegration is meant to have been their last. And as has been well-documented elsethread, I often wish that were true, especially after Wish.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 16 October 2003 11:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Disintergration was the best record they did. The aftermath of that bites ass.

st tremaine, Thursday, 16 October 2003 11:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Now that Geir has been educated in Cure folklore..

"Heavy" - I hope that means muddy bass with snakey guitar & mumbly vocals. And no snare.

dave225 (Dave225), Thursday, 16 October 2003 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

it will probably sound like the bastard love child of Dan and Ned. Nad.

Chris V. (Chris V), Thursday, 16 October 2003 12:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I have no idea because I hope never to have to listen to it

Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 16 October 2003 12:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Every album they've put out since 1982 was supposed to be their last album! They've been "calling it quits" ever since _Pornography_!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 16 October 2003 12:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Q: What will the next Cure album sound like?
A: Shite?

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Friday, 17 October 2003 20:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Ross Robinson's gonna put some fairy dust on this muthafucka, I can tell.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 17 October 2003 20:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Robert Smith does his cover of "Break Stuff"

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Friday, 17 October 2003 20:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Ross Robinson produced Limp Bizkit's first album only. "Break Stuff" was on the second and produced by Terry Date. Ignorant savage!

Nah, he's gonna cover "Freak On A Leash".

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 17 October 2003 20:32 (twenty-two years ago)

"Break Stuff" sounds just like everything else Limp Bisquick has ever done, so your point is moot, thou uppity ingrate!
Have at thee!
(*begins dueling with Miccio*)

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Friday, 17 October 2003 20:37 (twenty-two years ago)

in rolling stone he sez that it will be "cure heavy" not "new metal heavy". got it? good. which leads me to believe that it will sound like the cure.

scott seward, Friday, 17 October 2003 21:26 (twenty-two years ago)

god of all the things to be humorless about.

the new line-up

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 17 October 2003 21:48 (twenty-two years ago)

wait. I read it wrong. Actually this is his new song collaborators, the Matrix.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 17 October 2003 21:49 (twenty-two years ago)

That one new song going 'round the internet that sounds like "Love Cats" is a actually recording of Robert Smith having sex with a 15 y/o girl, edited and remixed by William Bennett.

Russ, Friday, 17 October 2003 22:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know...that looks more like a Robert Smith impersonator.
He's heavy enough, but he looks too tall.

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Saturday, 18 October 2003 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

either that or the rest of the people in the picture are gnome-sized.

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Saturday, 18 October 2003 17:48 (twenty-two years ago)

They've been "calling it quits" ever since _Pornography_!

We've fallen for it every time, lining their pockets. Machevellian.

Wanna bet it will be another Hits album: "Make Them Salivate! Why bother with new songs, when we've got them by the neck?"

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Saturday, 18 October 2003 18:56 (twenty-two years ago)

"Wild Mood Swings" is one of the most underrated albums - EVER!

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Saturday, 18 October 2003 22:41 (twenty-two years ago)

It will be classic, you heretics!

However, it will be firstly be delayed at least seven million times - as is the tradition.

Muppet Boy, Sunday, 19 October 2003 00:11 (twenty-two years ago)

The Cure "All Mashed Up"

78 Minutes of your favorite Cure instrumental mashed with modern hip-hop vocal greats!

donut bitch (donut), Sunday, 19 October 2003 01:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I heard it's gonna feature Macho Man Randy Savage rapping.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 19 October 2003 01:49 (twenty-two years ago)

It will sound like Foreigner

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Sunday, 19 October 2003 02:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Every song will be very reminiscent of "Funky but Chic" by buster poindexter.

Helltime Producto (Pavlik), Sunday, 19 October 2003 02:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Every song will be very reminiscent of "Funky but Chic" by buster poindexter.
That would be most excellent. (Although that ego was David Johansen.)

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 20 October 2003 11:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm hoping it sounds like a cross between the last five replies above.

flowersdie (flowersdie), Monday, 20 October 2003 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

It will sound fantastic. But I have a bias.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 20 October 2003 12:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I have high hopes too. I'm a bit worried though about how long they'll continue to delay the recordings..

Baaderist (Fabfunk), Monday, 20 October 2003 12:35 (twenty-two years ago)

They've been essentially releasing a new album every four years now since 1992 (and even that was after a three year gap from Disintegration). It's true that in the case of 92 to 96 it was the court battle with Tolhurst that held things up but basically it seems like Robert and company can keep doing things just as they want -- it is a pity when you think about how in the eighties you could get a new album practically every year from them, though!
