As mentioned here, list your favourite & worst instrumentals that got a vocal makeover later on (so, no tracks that were *initially* released with vocal and instrumental mixes).

Some of the most obvious ones were already mentioned on that thread:
Cosmos ft Roachford - Take Me With You
Spiller ft Sophie Ellis-Bextor - If This Ain't Love (Groovejet)
Octave One ft Ann Saunderson - Blackwater
Riva ft Dannii Minogue - Who Do You Love Now (Stringer)
Linus Loves ft Sam Obernik - Stand Back (The Terrace)
Rank 1 - Breathing (Airwave)
Underworld - Born Slippy
Tiesto - Love On Fire (Flight 643)
Lee Cabrera ft Alex Cartana - Move A Little Closer (Shake It)

and in a whole different genre:
Bathory - Hammerheart (an instrumental piece by Gustav Holst with added vocals)

S: Sublime's "Santeria"
D: whatever the OG instrumental was called

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 16 October 2003 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

well i know what owns this thread.

"money changes everything", (the b side of 'bigmouth...') by the smiths morphed into an actual song after bryan ferry added lyrics and made it 'the right stuff'.
the gee-tar part still being provided session man style by j marr esq.
the kind of fact that seems as if you must have dreamt it until you once again see it written down in a book.

S: That Michelle Lawson track just out where she sings over J-Walk's 'Soul Vibration' (vaguely crap track possibly redeemed)
D: Deejay Punk Roc feat. Onyx - ''Roc In It' (where the new vocals actually took away from the original)

Orbital - The Box

(God that Roachford version of Take Me With You is fucking dreadful - way to ruin a magical track Middleton)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 16 October 2003 15:10 (twenty-two years ago)

i've never heard the vocal version of 'The Box' - tho it rings a bell

UNKLE's 'Unreal' became 'Be There' after Ian Brown joined the 'party'

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 16 October 2003 15:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Gat Decor's 'Passion' later re-released as a bootleg with the vocals from Degrees Of Motion's 'Do You Want It Right Now?' - loved the original, hated the remake

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 16 October 2003 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

'Soul Vibration's is great Barima! whassamattayou?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 16 October 2003 15:17 (twenty-two years ago)

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 16 October 2003 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Orbital's 'Chime' received some dreadful vocals on the 'Mutations EP' if i recall

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 16 October 2003 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

hard to avoid mentioning the bootlegs e.g. wossname's 'I Need A Miracle' vs 'Toca Me'

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 16 October 2003 15:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I knew I was forgetting something re: UNKLE and Gat Decor. But if I'm wrong about 'Soul Vibration', you're SO wrong about the Gat Decor bootleg. Besides, Martin Brew is a bit of a tosser.

Barima (Barima), Thursday, 16 October 2003 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

well i always hated that Degrees Of Motion track, even after my seminal handbag epiphany of '95

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 16 October 2003 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Chicane's 'Offshore' also spoilt for me (i really did like it at the time i confess) by those shite Power Circle (or was it Power Zone?)vocals

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 16 October 2003 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't remember hearing the Degrees track on i's own, though I've been tempted to buy it, but I do like the vocals. In fact, I have a repressed retro-jonesing for handbag shit.

Slightly related, but recently I realised Rui Da Silva's 'Touch Me' and Richard X's 'Rock Jacket' have Spandau Ballet in common - how cool is that (very)? On a further related note, I've finally discovered Dare.

Barima (Barima), Thursday, 16 October 2003 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

excellent call on Rui Da Silva's Spandau pilfering!

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 16 October 2003 15:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude, I thought I'd be the *last* to notice.

polvo had an instrumental b-side to their "tilebreaker" single entitled "tiara fetish". they added vocals to it and released it on a Merge Records compilation (Five Rows Of Teeth) a few years later under the rename "watch the nail".

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 16 October 2003 15:45 (twenty-two years ago)

the flaming lips had a little instrumental bit on the end of their "providing needles for your balloons" ep that turned into "the train runs over the camel but is derailed by the gnat" on zaireeka.

mason butler, Thursday, 16 October 2003 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Sonic Youth's "Slaapkamers Met Slagroom" (17-min. instrumental on the SYR 2 EP) became "The Ineffable Me" (4-min. vocal track on A Thousand Leaves).

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 16 October 2003 16:00 (twenty-two years ago)

LFO's 'Shove Piggy Shove' became Bjork's 'I Go Humble'

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 16 October 2003 16:13 (twenty-two years ago)

"Falling" by Julee Cruise is one such track, isn't it?

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 16 October 2003 18:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Richard Thompson's Persuasion...later Tim Finn added lyrics

bahtology, Thursday, 16 October 2003 22:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Riz Ortolani's Theme from Mondo Cane had lyrics added to it and was a hit as "More".

Sean (Sean), Thursday, 16 October 2003 22:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Destroy: Madonna 'Justify My Love' (which started life as 'Security of the First World' by Public Enemy).

M Carty (mj_c), Friday, 17 October 2003 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)
