'Well I'm telling you they never got it right / Until they put out Undercover of the Night'

The Rolling Stones' November 1983 single release 'Undercover of the Night' represents the shining pinnacle of their illustrious career.
Though there are many lesser gems in their earlier canon (and arguably some since?), all of these songs pre-1983 are merely building blocks towards this, the perfect summation of their ouvre.

Discuss.

Boringly enough I like "Satisfaction" best.

It's like, after "Hang Fire", you could tell that they were only just getting started.

And once "She Was Hot" came out, everything melted inside me.

Undercover is great. I love the single and the album.

"too much blood" is my fave off undercover. title track is good, too. but neither is their best ever -- not even close.

Simon Price started this thread while moonlighting from the onetouchfootball forums. I'm convinced of it.

Those stickers on the album cover were kinda fun - not as much fun as the "Sticky Fingers" zipper or the "Satanic Majesties" 3-D thingy, but more fun than the "Exile" postcards and "Dirty Work" red cellophane.

Too bad they couldn't teach Mick to pronounce "desaparecidos."

I love the stones and have all their 60s and 70s stuff and tattoo you, yet have never heard this record. I always assumed it was shit. Am I wrong?

"Undercover" is one of their better late period singles. I'll give you that. But not more than that. :-)

I love "Too Much Blood" even though none of the Stones play on it (gotta love Sly & Robbie); and "She Was Hot" is a fine companion piece to "She's So Cold." The rest is meh.

My love for Dirty Work is well-documented.

I agree with the premise of this thread.
