Does anyone have concrete details on the death of Dave Robbotham (Rowbotham?)? Supposedly he was killed by an axe murdered in 1991 in Burnage. What the hell is this about? Was it a serial killer?

Someone told me (I think it was Andrew Thames that told me) that Tony Wilson was in the middle of an interview when he got the call to say Dave Rowbotham had been murdered.

"the call to say" - sorry, that should read "the call saying that".

According to the best DC site, a history of the last ten years of the band/Vini has been commissioned. Until then, there have got to be a couple of DC fans here who can do better than me on this.

I spent about a day googling the hell out of this one, even trying to dredge up old news reports and obituaries (which of course wouldn't have been online at the time).

Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything of use. It really is a mystery ... some very foggy memories of things I may have read (or not) suggest that it could have been a) drugs related b) some sort of spousal/familial thing, but as I say, I may not have read anything about that at all.

I remember the NME had a couple paragraphs on it the week after it happened, so if you can locate a library that has access to the back issues, that may be your best bet. I don't remember any of the details, sorry. . .

The book about Factory by Mick Middles "From Joy Division to New Order" (if memory serves correctly) has a lot of background info on all the bands, including Durutti. There may also be something in there about Dave Rowbotham, can't recall off the top of my head.
