I'm not even sure when this came out, but it was sitting on the shelf at the record store the other day. The title is Love Is Love and some of it rocks a lot harder than Necrophones. Other parts are droney, dual-guitar melodies. The lyrics aren't bad, but they aren't as straight-up fucked as they have been in the past. I need to give it more time, but it's certainly not a disappointment.
Rad cover art as well. Anyone know who did it? The insert does not say.

I haven't heard 'em all, but from what I have: Pass & Stow, Rainbows From Atoms, Love Is Love, Necrophones.
I'm sure I'll pick up the rest eventually. They're surprisingly understocked in record stores, too--probably one reason I don't have more than these four. I just can't make myself order from Dischord for some reason--I can't justify mailordering just one CD at a time, and I'd probably end up with some crap I don't want (like a Faraquet record or the new Q And Not U.)

That Ted Leo cover of the Lungfish tune just got issued on CD for the first time on the split with One AM Radio. It's really pretty. He was playing it live on some of his recent solo shows (or at least the instore I saw at Amoeba in LA)
I think my fave Lungfish song is "Abraham Lincoln" from Rainbows from Atoms.

Side by Side Comparison: Love is Love is way more optimistic and cheery than Necrophones, but not as musically varied. (which is the real weak point, because Lungfish albums sans instrumentals have gotten increasingly poor as time goes along; need a little palate cleanser now and then.)

I wish I had grabbed these pictures when they were still up here. I have been on my seemingly annual Lungfish kick lately. One of my favorite bands ever.

Wait, was that the one at the Queen Mary in Long Beach? I saw them at that one. I can't remember if Flaming Lips played, though.

the singer has a new thing out, all solo banjo pieces
― eman, Monday, 16 March 2009 17:42 (sixteen years ago)
My main memories of that show concern how wrong it felt watching the Cramps play in a lovely green field in the sun. And how much I hated the guy from the Shins, who conducted all between-song banter in a wacky hip-hop "izzle" voice as a "tribute" to the "LBC." Prick. But there's so many bands there I would LOVE to see now that I don't think I really appreciated that much!
Oh, and, yes, Lungfish ruled. I've been lucky to see them a bunch of times - twice with Fugazi at First Avenue in Mineapolis, once at Brownies in NYC with Quix*o*Tic, a couple times in D.C...
― Shannon Whirry & the Bad Brains, Monday, 16 March 2009 17:43 (sixteen years ago)
Yeah, his solo Jaw Harp album is really great! (I think it's called Magic Alphabet - I got it on eMusic, I think...)
the zomes record is pretty good too. got to see them open for brightblack morning light. just the guitarist and two others playing cheap organs over rhythm tape loops
