i blame evanescence. or do i??

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 20 October 2003 05:42 (twenty-two years ago)

This could either be brilliant or awful. Although I actually think it would be better for Delta to go in this direction than Vanessa (her voice is surely a little to honeyed for this sort of stuff???)

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 20 October 2003 05:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Do you know what Wicca is? I believe in like spells and stuff like that.

this is my favorite kind of fuck-you statement, like when bruce willis says "we're in love" in a movie.

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Monday, 20 October 2003 06:33 (twenty-two years ago)

also: i'm listening to the cure right now.

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Monday, 20 October 2003 06:34 (twenty-two years ago)

"I'm singing about suicide, insomnia and paranoia," Carlton says about the album

yeh and her guitarist used to be in Evil Gazebo

joni, Monday, 20 October 2003 10:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I can totally imagine this in a Love Spirals Downwards/Black Tape For A Blue Girl way.

Siegbran (eofor), Monday, 20 October 2003 11:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Except nowhere near as fantastic (I am a Projekt lurver -- Vanessa I have rather different feelings about).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 20 October 2003 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

No, no, this could only be awful.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 20 October 2003 12:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Vanessa Carlton, I kiss you many times.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 20 October 2003 12:51 (twenty-two years ago)

me and my friend bill
decided that she wishes
that she smelled like pee

Haikunym (Haikunym), Monday, 20 October 2003 12:56 (twenty-two years ago)

In the midnight hour, I can feel your power!

Baaderist (Fabfunk), Monday, 20 October 2003 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

"Vanessa who? What a crock!"

däs Mish (vassifer), Monday, 20 October 2003 15:42 (twenty-two years ago)

is she the one who's dating Third Eye Blind?

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 20 October 2003 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

All of them? Heavens! I get sick now. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 20 October 2003 16:51 (twenty-two years ago)

This gives me hope that I might one day wake up to find I've suddenly acquired Wicca. Maybe it's contagious?

Blood and sparkles (bloodandsparkles), Monday, 20 October 2003 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

the real questions are now how good will she look in leather and will this cause me to fall in love with her or despise her?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 20 October 2003 21:04 (twenty-two years ago)

It would be corney if she half assed it, or just did the exact same album but added halloween noises and said it was Goth. But judging by that peice, I'd say she's really going out on a limb. Also, the way she criticised her other stuff made me respect her a lot more.

David Allen, Monday, 20 October 2003 21:48 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah. she's dating Stephan Jenkins, who also produced this album. I will say this can't be WORSE than her old shit.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 20 October 2003 21:49 (twenty-two years ago)

*bows* You must excuse me, the hand of Stephen Jenkins is enough to cause catastrophe (but we've been down this road before).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 20 October 2003 23:17 (twenty-two years ago)

at least you haven't read the interviews with Carlton where she talks about where Jenkins hands have been. *shudder*

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 20 October 2003 23:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Vanessa = the new Avril.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Monday, 20 October 2003 23:34 (twenty-two years ago)

"the kind of the euphoria that someone gets when they're tortured by being dead"

!!!!!!!!

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Monday, 20 October 2003 23:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Vanessa = the new Avril.

The old one seems strange and distant now.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 20 October 2003 23:38 (twenty-two years ago)

hey, when they have sex, do you think Stephan Jenkins ever accidently yells "Fiona Lite"?

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 00:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Thank you for that image in my head, which I will now cut off.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 00:07 (twenty-two years ago)

"BINGO!"

Now if only the link worked.

"DEEP INSIDE OF FIONA LITE!"

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 00:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't get "She's Tight" out of my head now. Evil Stephan Jenkins. Evil Cheap Trick.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 01:00 (twenty-two years ago)

"She's Tight" by Cheap Trick is great! What does that have to do with Stephen Jenkins?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 11:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Michelle should call the album "Hot Topic", it will the touchstone for all suburban mall-goths.

Nicolars (Nicole), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Stephen Jenkins used to date Charlize Theron. CHARLIZE THERON, people! So not fair.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 16:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Vanessa Carlton rules!

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 16:34 (twenty-two years ago)

nine months pass...
The video for the new single "White Houses" can be viewed here http://www.vanessacarlton.com

I certainly wouldn't call it "Goth" but it's a pretty glorious single. I think Stephen Jenkins produced it. The chorus isn't far from Third Eye Blind's more Journey-ish pop moments. Kind of sadly nostalgic as well.

The video's charming too; Vanessa plays piano while watching a doppelganger version of herself practive ballet moves.
My favorite music video of all time is the New Edition clip for "If It Isn't Love" in which they struggle to nail dance moves in a rehearsal space, so I'm glad this new video serves to function as the passive feminine counterpart to that classic.

herbert hebert (herbert hebert), Sunday, 15 August 2004 05:23 (twenty-one years ago)

terrible video. "If It Isn't Love" is classic, though.

Al (sitcom), Sunday, 15 August 2004 05:33 (twenty-one years ago)

two months pass...
I love "White Houses"! It is not goth at all, and it's not quite as good as "A Thousand Miles" but it's still ace. Has anyone heard the album?

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Sunday, 24 October 2004 04:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm listening to the album right now and haven't heard a goth song yet.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Sunday, 24 October 2004 07:11 (twenty-one years ago)

OH HOLY CHRIST!

I was just in the other room with the cd playing and then a string section started up and it was something I recognized. Then the little tinkly echoey piano started coming in and I had to run back in here to make sure...

SHE'S COVERING WHERE THE STREETS HAVE NO NAME.

Kill me now.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Sunday, 24 October 2004 07:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I dont know much about dancing, but... she doesn't seem very good at it. Ballet at least. I mean she's probably a fine break dancer.

David Allen (David Allen), Sunday, 24 October 2004 11:43 (twenty-one years ago)

i have insomnia and i am not goth

amateur!!!st (amateurist), Sunday, 24 October 2004 13:09 (twenty-one years ago)
