Hi, which blogs do you always read? I'm kind of new to the whole thing, mostly looking for non-rock stuff..

Any really good hiphop-writing, for example?
Best danceblogs?

etc..

jaheim hoagland, Monday, 20 October 2003 09:57 (twenty-two years ago)

go somewhere like nylpm or blissblog and just follow follow follow the links

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 20 October 2003 09:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Good on hip-hop: Spizzazz

Good on dance music: Skykicking, Tufluv

Good on both: Blissblog, Technicolour

...and lots of others. It struck me the other day how at least half and probably more of the new music blogs I see are concerned mostly with electronic stuff or hip-hop, a far cry from a couple of years ago.

the best blog is a dead blog...

s tremaine, Monday, 20 October 2003 11:12 (twenty-two years ago)

oh dear oh der oh dear *raises eyes to heaven in mock surprise*

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 20 October 2003 12:54 (twenty-two years ago)

camp ain't yer thing.

i enjoy *dead* websites. sorry it's my fetish. 'LAST UPDATED IN JANUARY 1997' - more fun than a live one.

s tremaine, Monday, 20 October 2003 13:05 (twenty-two years ago)

1997 probably a good place to start for the music you like too

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 20 October 2003 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

ha ha

mohammed abba (dubplatestyle), Monday, 20 October 2003 13:08 (twenty-two years ago)

now now ronan don't make me link up all yer 'ryan adams' post now...

s tremaine, Monday, 20 October 2003 13:09 (twenty-two years ago)

oooh! get him! zing!

mohammed abba (dubplatestyle), Monday, 20 October 2003 13:10 (twenty-two years ago)

link away! it's certainly funnier than your tedious hack show.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 20 October 2003 13:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I always read Simple Pleasures, but then I do write it. (Was that shameless enough?)

Also Popjustice is hilarious.

Nick H, Monday, 20 October 2003 13:12 (twenty-two years ago)

ha ha!

Oooo... *insert appropriate crowd noises*

I'm interviewing the Zutons tonight - any words of advice? Like what *not* to do. Oooo...

s tremaine, Monday, 20 October 2003 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

it's gonna be big baby, like huge!! this is serious stuff!!

mohammed abba (dubplatestyle), Monday, 20 October 2003 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I advise you not to write it up.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 20 October 2003 13:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Oooo ... meow!

You are so sassy! Why? Should I save it for the twenty people who buy 'Hot Press'?

Oooo...

s tremaine, Monday, 20 October 2003 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes. You'd fit right in there. You can't write and you have no sense of humour.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 20 October 2003 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Oooo... can't write ... oooo ... that's not writing that's typing... ooo... scary! Ooo... maybe i should just stop now ...

s tremaine, Monday, 20 October 2003 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

maybe i should write to my three editors and say: listen dudes, ronan is right, i can't do anything about it but i just can't write. please contact ronan when you need anything... Ooooo...

s tremaine, Monday, 20 October 2003 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Please don't, I don't want to have to listen to crap records.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 20 October 2003 13:31 (twenty-two years ago)

let's see doomie do a blog !

DJ Martian (djmartian), Monday, 20 October 2003 13:31 (twenty-two years ago)

my blog would be self-reverential and well, psychotic! hahah.

s tremaine, Monday, 20 October 2003 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

well, my blog is pretty dead and i am decidedly not being camp... just... and ronan, you've made it a pleasure to be back again! sonny, editors rarely care whether you can write or not. it's more important that they just know you...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 20 October 2003 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

my blog would well-hated by ilx. i'm not exactly talking myself out of this am I?

s tremaine, Monday, 20 October 2003 13:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 20 October 2003 13:40 (twenty-two years ago)

it would only be hated by ilx because you would want it to be hated by ilx and i don't think everyone here has the same opinions abt what good music or good writing is...i would however venture to say that the zutons are not universally considered fabulous though.

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 20 October 2003 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm a retro freak, dave. can't help it. i'm also reviewing the animal collective this wednesday..

s tremaine, Monday, 20 October 2003 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

i collect soft-pop fer chrissakes...! hahaha..

s tremaine, Monday, 20 October 2003 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

meaning, obviously, there are retro-freaks out there, not keen on the retro-nazis, who get physically upset when i criticise the beatles for being rubbish but whatcanyoudo?

s tremaine, Monday, 20 October 2003 13:51 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, good god almighty... the beatles weren't rubbish... that's one of the silliest things i've ever heard

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 20 October 2003 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

i mean i'm not a fan but objectively (or as objective as anyone can be about music, which isn't very, admittedly) saying they were rubbish is crazy talk

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 20 October 2003 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

the beatles were rubbish and should have stopped after '65 - their zenith really. the byrds piss over all their back catalogue - the beatles just had better press for their rubbish songs. hell, the rutles are better than the beatles, anyday.

s tremaine, Monday, 20 October 2003 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

"Piggy In The Middle" is hardly better than "I Am The Walrus". "10538 Overture" is, however.

robin carmody (robin carmody), Monday, 20 October 2003 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Conversely, Keynsham is considerably better than Abbey Road.

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 20 October 2003 14:33 (twenty-two years ago)

the thing is, the rutles, they meant it maaaaaaaan. the beatles, never did.

s tremaine, Monday, 20 October 2003 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

don't make me start singing 'the meatmen' - 'one down three to go' or recant my ringo starr's daughter/ian mcnabb story! you've been forewarned.

s tremaine, Monday, 20 October 2003 14:48 (twenty-two years ago)

recant - you mean that wasn't true?

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 20 October 2003 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)

yaeger, Monday, 20 October 2003 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

matthew ingram's "naughty bit of a crap" is the best blog i've ever seen. i don't even know if you could rightly call it a blog.

vahid (vahid), Monday, 20 October 2003 17:23 (twenty-two years ago)

The best music blog that I am aware of (and I'm aware of quite a few, check my links section if you don't believe me) is by some distance Clap Clap Blog.

Other notable blogs - Jody Beth Rosen's Freezing To Death, though she doesn't write much about music anymore. Paul Cox/Courtney Owens/Martin Pavlinic's God's Audio/Visual Aid. Thomas Inskeep's Oh Manchester. Joe Macare's The New Hip Hop, Political Correctness Trend. Sasha Frere-Jone's SF/J. Chris Conroy's Do You Feel Loved? Badger Minor. Waking Ear. Erik's Trip. Damaged In Transit. Technicolor. The music content on Big Sunny D usually is very nice.

I value enthusiasm over faux-academia in my blogging tastes.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 19:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I must put in a word for Hipster Detritus if we're talking about enthusiasm, because Nate just clearly fucking loves music so much it's almost unnerving. GREAT stuff.

adaml (adaml), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 19:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Does Stelfox have a blog? I'd buy that for a dollar.

adaml (adaml), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 19:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Shit, a simple Google has answered that question for me. Sorry.

adaml (adaml), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 19:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh fuck! I forgot about Nate and Hipster Detritus. I promise you, I meant to put that one too!

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 20:08 (twenty-two years ago)

A Patrin scorned...

adaml (adaml), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 20:12 (twenty-two years ago)

thanks everyone! I like tufluv and the hipster detrius-guy most, so far.

jaheim hoagland, Tuesday, 21 October 2003 21:36 (twenty-two years ago)

oh snap, I'm unnerving! MISSION ACCOMPLISHED (yet I am going to keep maintaining soldiers writing in Iraq my blog for the forseeable future)

Note to self: stop with the "Nate makes a list of favorite songs and it will be super aweso- oh wait, he doesn't have time anymore, and he got a new idea, sorry" arglebargle

nate detritus (natedetritus), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 22:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I read nf.

Andrew (enneff), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 22:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, that was "the hipster-detritus guy"! It's like Hollywood in here today!

*swoons*

adaml (adaml), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 23:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I am a Hollywood freak on the Hollywood scene
