Any sources arise in the past 17 years? For example, when did The Chills - Brave Words come out in 1987?

For something like that which the Web doesn't seem to know, I would maybe try Google Books scans of contemporaneous trade mags, etc.?

The NZ government does a good job of cataloging national releases:
The Chills. Brave Words, the new LP, tape & CD out now, released by Flying Nun Records, distributed by WEA. Galaxy, Auck[land], Dec 18 & 19; Victoria Uni, W[ellin]gt[o]n, Dec 21; Sammy's, Dunedin, Dec 22; Carlton, Chch, Dec 23 [1987].

...would make it seem like mid-December 1987?

Thanks for that one! My usual sources are Wikipedia, Discogs, Rateyourmusic and a general google query for artist/album title/"release date" often comes up with the goods. Any other website offer specific dates?
There's a couple of books that cover the 1976-82 period in calendar form, a pity there isn't something covering the rest of the 80s.
