t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Monday, 20 October 2003 22:17 (twenty-two years ago)

are you friends with this song? can you introduce us? i am totally serious - i will get down on bended knee and propose to it!

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 20 October 2003 23:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I downloaded this OH MY GOD! THIS IS THE MOST PERFECT THING I HAVE EVER HEARD!!

Sonny A. (Keiko), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

that record cover is awesome.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 16:49 (twenty-two years ago)

It's a really touching story. For those who haven't heard, it's about an italian guy who goes up into space and he keeps hearing this distant signal, what sounds like a sexy woman saying "I wanna be your lover, and not just be your friend." So he goes and explores and finally lands and get's a visual image on his screen and it's an alien, all green and slimey saying "I wanna be your lover" so he say's "houston, get me outta here!" Better then any of that singer/songwriter nonsense.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Lauren, I so want to hear this. Macs suck! (today, anyway)

adaml (adaml), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 20:13 (twenty-two years ago)

dan otm. one of the best narratives ever. i didn't really notice the lyrics at first because the song bowled me over with its obscene brilliance, but after a few hundred listens i was all "hey, did he just say something about slime?".

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 20:57 (twenty-two years ago)

in case anyone was wondering, this song is still perfect.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 23 October 2003 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
haha still perfect!

cºzen (Cozen), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 22:40 (twenty-one years ago)

yes!

adam... (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 22:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Did Lauren propose?

adam... (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 22:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I should try to hear this. I liked their music for the great Terence Hill film "Superfuzz".

Pangolino (ricki spaghetti), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 23:13 (twenty-one years ago)

dan plays this out a lot, i like to dance to it,

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, wait! I HAVE heard it before! I didn't realize it was them.

Pangolino (ricki spaghetti), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 23:31 (twenty-one years ago)

OMG I had never followed the story properly before. I must now listen to it again! I love love stories with an outer space angle! OK. I can't really think of any others besides 'Clouds Across The Moon'.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 18 November 2004 00:29 (twenty-one years ago)

It's an allegory of internet relationships past and present!

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 18 November 2004 00:31 (twenty-one years ago)

"Starship Trooper" by Sarah Brightman is another one... "Fred vom Jupiter" by die Doraus und die Marinas is another, the amazing "Ariane" by The Honeymoon Killers is the last I can think of offhand.

Pangolino (ricki spaghetti), Thursday, 18 November 2004 00:42 (twenty-one years ago)

it sort of inverts the dynamic of Dee Dee Jackson's "Automatic Lover" . . .

It's nice to see non-Italians grooving to this track. I'd never heard it, and our Italian tour promoter Manfredi Romano was ranting about how amazing it was, then he sent me an mp3 and I was like, damnnnnnnnnnn. . . . .

Drew Daniel, Thursday, 18 November 2004 04:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Manfredi is a man of good taste...

try this for a good shot of '70's Italian moustaches:

Marco Damiani (Marco D.), Thursday, 18 November 2004 09:36 (twenty-one years ago)

'I Wanna Be Your Lover' was their swansong! I can't bear the poignancy.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 18 November 2004 10:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Did Lauren propose?

it's been over a year, and we're still very happy together. like newlyweds, even!

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 18 November 2004 10:30 (twenty-one years ago)

"'I Wanna Be Your Lover' was their swansong! I can't bear the poignancy".

Yes, they started working as producers and got a couple of HUGE Italian hits with techno-pop act Righeira.
They did also some soundtrack work, mostly for Bud Spencer and Terence Hill, heroes of any self-respecting Italian child in the late 70's/ early 80's era (are they somewhat known in the US?).

Here you find some of the La Bionda dirty work for them:

cathy berberian (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 8 January 2005 07:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Jaxon, I posted this song two or three weeks ago, it's probably how it ended up in your mp3 folder.

Matthew "Flux" Perpetua, Saturday, 8 January 2005 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

matthew the very DAY you posted this song (okay maybe just the week) my friend brought the 12" to my dj nite!

also did you know in europe 12"s are sometimes labelled as "30cm"s?

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 8 January 2005 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

someone type out the lyrics!

cutty (mcutt), Saturday, 8 January 2005 18:23 (twenty-one years ago)

i wanna be your looooooooover
i wanna be your lover
i wanna be your lover

.adam (nordicskilla), Saturday, 8 January 2005 18:50 (twenty-one years ago)

make contact (beep beep)

riding in a spaceship
1984
picking up the signal
never heard before!

i wanna be your looooooooover
i wanna be your lover
i wanna be your lover
and not just be your friend

ground control's excited
i'm here all alone
alien transmission
chills me to the bone

outside in the darkness
something waits for me
now i see its picture
forming on tv

i wanna be your looooooooover
i wanna be your lover
i wanna be your lover
and not just be your friend

what's this thing before me?
from the depths of space
blue and green and slimey
it ain't got not face!
get me back to houston
get me out of here
voices on the speakers
whisper in my ear

i wanna be your looooooooover
i wanna be your lover
i wanna be your lover
not just be your friend

cutty (mcutt), Saturday, 8 January 2005 19:01 (twenty-one years ago)

okay, if there are any italo-disco experts out there, the other night at The Tubesteak Connection (SF queer club at a Tenderloin hole in the wall bar called Aunt Charlie's) the DJ Bus Station John played this fucking killer Italo-Disco track, and the chorus seemed to be the phrase "Que Idea" (kay eee-day-uh) over and over on top of a killer electric bassline. The music is a bit more funky and less synthy/robotic than typical Italo-disco. But anyway, it was the shit. So pipe up if you can ID this track, I am a desperate man.

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Saturday, 8 January 2005 22:49 (twenty-one years ago)

"Tubesteak Connection". funny funny

JaXoN (JasonD), Saturday, 8 January 2005 23:02 (twenty-one years ago)

drew: some mix of pino d'angio's MASSIVE "ma quale idea"?

cºzen (Cozen), Saturday, 8 January 2005 23:08 (twenty-one years ago)

What's that? Where can I find it?

I heard the entire album this song is on, and it was TERRIBLE! HEINOUS! BLECH!

jaxon (jaxon), Monday, 24 October 2005 18:37 (twenty years ago)

sounds good on the annie mix though (although my opinion of the keyboard thing depends on my mood - usually I like it)

so, anyone heard any of their full length albums? i have access to High Energy and Bandido but am scared after hearing that other album.

jäxøñ (jaxon), Thursday, 4 May 2006 20:21 (nineteen years ago)

i got a cd w/bandido and 'la bionda' both on it, both to me were unlistenable.

bangelo (bangelo), Thursday, 4 May 2006 20:29 (nineteen years ago)

actually, there was one jaw-dropping track about 'a woman's place' or something, but didn't do much past novelty value

bangelo (bangelo), Thursday, 4 May 2006 20:30 (nineteen years ago)

a good earlier song, Save Your Energy was just posted to Bumrocks.com, check it out, may still be there.

TS: "wanna be your lover" vs. "spacer woman"?

le hague, Friday, 5 May 2006 06:03 (nineteen years ago)

I still haven't heard any of the entire albums, but the music from "Superfuzz" was as great as the film. What about the albums made them terrible or unlistenable?

Pangolino 2, Friday, 5 May 2006 16:24 (nineteen years ago)

TS: "wanna be your lover" vs. "spacer woman"?

i'm honestly not sure i could choose.

joseph (joseph), Friday, 5 May 2006 20:41 (nineteen years ago)

until this thread, i'm not sure I realized they were distinct. which may be a good thing!

If there's a more perfect two lines than "Riding in a spaceship/Nineteen Eighty Four," I'd like to hear them.

"I've Got Your Number" is so good. It's starts off so rock-y and tough like Beardo. And on the same album is the very timely track about the high cost of energy called High Energy.

mizzzell (mizzzell), Thursday, 2 November 2006 04:30 (nineteen years ago)

so i was in the fitting room at forever 21 earlier today, and i hear the opening bars of this booming over the store pa. i almost fainted. i mean, i'm used to hearing good charlotte in there!

(followed by: a decent-enough remix of the knife and a housey remix of "standing in the way of control" that was bad enough to hustle me out of the store.)

Wait, it's a guy singing the chorus ?? I always imagined it was a very sexy black girl singing next to a moustachioed guy. I was right about the moustache though...

Well it doesn't change the fact that as Donna Rouge said, this is still the best thing ever.
