IQ "Barbell Is In"

Don't let the cover fool you. This was a band at the top of their game.

"Body Ad" by Tommy Tadlock

peepee (peepee), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Speaking of Pet Shop Boys' Bobby O recordings, I prefer the Stephen Hague version of "Pet Shop Boys". "One More Chance", however, sounded a lot better in its original Bobby O version.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 21:05 (twenty-two years ago)

"Ccccan't you see" - Vicious Pink

A Nairn (moretap), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 22:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Heart So Blue: Erasure

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 22:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Was "My Heart....So Blue" ever a single?

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 23:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Looked on Amazon and AMG. It wasn't, though your thread didn't say it had to be.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 23:43 (twenty-two years ago)

grauzone, "eisbär"

Little Big Macher (llamasfur), Friday, 24 October 2003 22:16 (twenty-two years ago)

i mean, you can't beat a song with these lyrics (deutsch-englisch):

"I'd like to be a polar bear / In the cold arctic / Then I'd never have to cry / Polar bears don't cry"

Little Big Macher (llamasfur), Friday, 24 October 2003 22:18 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, that grauzone track is great. The noises and sax are sweeeet.

A Nairn (moretap), Saturday, 25 October 2003 02:03 (twenty-two years ago)

"IQ "Barbell Is In"

IQ as in Marillion-without-tunes IQ?

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Saturday, 25 October 2003 06:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know any of these except PSB / Bobby O (good choice), but I'd like to lob in Fashion's song 'Move On'.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Saturday, 25 October 2003 09:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I second the Colourbox WC theme, and add also the following:

Whatever Possessed You - Care
Passion Killer- One the Juggler
(both 1983)
Hey Presto - Black (84 ?)

darren (darren), Saturday, 25 October 2003 10:09 (twenty-two years ago)

.. and all B-Movie's singles as well.

darren (darren), Saturday, 25 October 2003 10:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Does Revolutionary Spirit by the Wild Swans count as undiscovered? Because that's pretty great.

Damian (Damian), Saturday, 25 October 2003 10:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I own San Damiano by Sal Solo - it was one of my favourite things ever as a teenager. It wasn't exactly undiscovered this side of the Atlantic - they had it on the jukebox in the cafe in the Glenshee ski area.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 25 October 2003 10:51 (twenty-two years ago)

nicole have you heard the orchestral version off of 'two ring circus' ?
i'm sure you must have, but just in case u haven't - please try + hear it at all costa and get ready to pass out.

piscesboy, Saturday, 25 October 2003 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Not being funny or anything BUT I remember that IQ single as being a horrendously weak attempt at white reggae that made The Clash's attempts in the same genre sound like King Tubby.

Is "XOYO" by The Passage undiscovered?

I third the Colourbox World Cup Theme.

udu wudu (udu wudu), Saturday, 25 October 2003 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

two years pass...
"send my heart" by the adventures
"angels and devils" by passage

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 29 May 2006 07:18 (nineteen years ago)

two years pass...

I shall always respect my elders (Z S), Sunday, 8 February 2009 18:55 (seventeen years ago)

that is easy:
Tee Vees - Fatman Crossing

the last listen is ~20years ago, and i still can remember the melody 0o

meisenfek, Sunday, 8 February 2009 19:16 (seventeen years ago)

I mention Bill Nelson because he has way too much music

CaptainLorax, Sunday, 8 February 2009 22:59 (seventeen years ago)

not sure what defines undiscovered, but my vote is for Disney Boys by The Blue Orchids

Dr X O'Skeleton, Monday, 9 February 2009 21:29 (seventeen years ago)

That's funny because I would probably go with "Work" by the Blue Orchids! Those two singles and the first album are nearly perfect.

deedeedeextrovert, Monday, 9 February 2009 21:30 (seventeen years ago)

nearly perfect is apt - being slightly out of tune giving the sinister edge

Dr X O'Skeleton, Monday, 9 February 2009 21:33 (seventeen years ago)

I know it seems like my response to every thread is simple "have you checked out this release on Acute Records" self-promotional whoring, but I know I'm not the only one who thinks this is one of the great "undiscovered" singles of the 80s...

dan selzer, Monday, 9 February 2009 21:35 (seventeen years ago)

dan, i found a lp by the lines and snatched it up knowing you were a fan only to find out it was completely terrible. don't worry, it wasn't your the lines but some awful 80s boston bar band.

andrew m., Monday, 9 February 2009 22:25 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, there's a new band called The Lines as well.

dan selzer, Monday, 9 February 2009 22:38 (seventeen years ago)

IQ as in Marillion-without-tunes IQ?

SB'd him for that.

Otto von Biz Markie (Noodle Vague), Monday, 9 February 2009 23:40 (seventeen years ago)

"Sexcrime (1984)" didn't make it onto many/any compilations.

Eazy, Monday, 9 February 2009 23:44 (seventeen years ago)

And there's this new wave Lines, from Long Island. Better than the Boston one, worse than the UK bunch.

Why did I just hear this last night and not 31 years ago?!!!

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 28 April 2013 17:43 (twelve years ago)

one year passes...

i was actually gonna start a thread for this video but apparently i can't start threads. probably a good protective measure on ilx's part. anyway, this thing...

scott seward, Friday, 3 October 2014 16:57 (eleven years ago)

wow, an IQ ref on ILX

I think Freur's "Doot Doot" would be my pick. Though I guess that single is quite discovered by now.

This is a pretty weird tune, the song itself is a cover of an earlier Finnish cover of Was Ich Dir Sagen Will/The Music Played, a schmaltzy 60s ballad, but the backing sounds like slowed-down proto-acid house.

Tuomas, Friday, 3 October 2014 18:26 (eleven years ago)

^^^ I like that a lot!

Do people remember Torch Song much any more?

has everyone already seen the "boat talk" video? is it famous? i couldn't believe i'd never seen it until last week or whatever.

scott seward, Friday, 3 October 2014 19:42 (eleven years ago)

New to me. I'm at work on headphones, so I'm listening rather than watching, but I'm douing so now and just read the story of these guys. Cool!

Dick Clownload (Dan Peterson), Friday, 3 October 2014 19:53 (eleven years ago)

The Sun a Small Star by The Servants

Dr X O'Skeleton, Friday, 3 October 2014 23:06 (eleven years ago)

Hyacinth Girl by Winter Hours. This should have been a 120 Minutes smash.
