I think someone is tampering with my mail, threatening CD-R trades

I've sent some individual e-mails on the subject, but yeah, basically hardly any of my trades have shown up, and they only time they have is when I've gotten the mail myself.

What to do...

Sarah Pedal (call mr. lee), Thursday, 23 October 2003 15:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Depends on who you are trading with.
I keep trading with gaz, who is on the opposite side of the planet, so it takes like two months to complete a cycle of trading.
Also, I suspect everybody has to agree which partner sends their discs first. (Because "If you send me a CDR, I'll send you a CDR" might actually mean "If you send me a CDR, then I'll send you a CDR")

A Priority Mail package sent a week ago still has yet to arrive. That's what makes me think that something is rotten in the state of Denmark.

Sarah Pedal (call mr. lee), Thursday, 23 October 2003 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

i have lost about 1/3 of the international mail I've either sent or received from the US to the UK over the past few months. I think customs is to blame.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Thursday, 23 October 2003 17:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah Pedal...where are you?
Are you in a big city or out in the boondocks?

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Thursday, 23 October 2003 17:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Los suburbs. I just got today's mail and one trade did show up, but I'm even more concerned now, because the postman said, "This was in the mailbox. Is it for you guys?"

Are my parents trying to return my mail to sender?

Sarah Pedal (call mr. lee), Thursday, 23 October 2003 17:52 (twenty-two years ago)

hmmm... my last shipment of CDs from the mag i write for back in canada has gone astray (i'm in the UK). had no problems with previous mailouts, but this one is now 3 weeks late and probably lost. very annoying.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 23 October 2003 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I get that too. Alot. But only because:

  • On one forum I'm "Lord Custos"
  • On another I'm "Captain Anarchy" (I'm sure I've lost at least SOME of my mail to the Department of Homeland Security because of that.)
  • I'm also known by a pen-name
  • P.Lake (known on this forum as "sucka") likes put put imaginary names on envelopes.
  • and before I was "Custos" I was called "Keeper"

It's gotten to the point where my mailman doesn't even question it anymore. He just hands it to me, without comment, and goes on with his round.

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Thursday, 23 October 2003 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

maybe you should ask your parents

M Matos (M Matos), Thursday, 23 October 2003 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Things have been a bit weird around the household lately, so this might be someone's idea of "payback" for my doing christ knows what.

While "Pedal" isn't my literal last name, it shares the same first three letters, so I assumed it wouldn't matter. Feh.

Sarah Pedal (call mr. lee), Thursday, 23 October 2003 19:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I want to trade CD-Rs with people on ILM. How do I go about this?

Xii (Xii), Thursday, 23 October 2003 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

propositioning.

Felcher (Felcher), Thursday, 23 October 2003 19:25 (twenty-two years ago)

email me a land address, Xii, and I'll see what I can do.

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Thursday, 23 October 2003 19:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah, I certainly hope you got mine, as I sent it indeed ten days ago (at least.) Please e' me if you haven't, and I'll get a replacement out to you posthaste...

M Specktor (M Specktor), Thursday, 23 October 2003 19:56 (twenty-two years ago)

i've had two packages that've been sent to new york lost in the last few months...
maybe the postal workers steal em.
or the customs officer.
maybe i'm not addressing em right...

paulhw (paulhw), Thursday, 23 October 2003 20:28 (twenty-two years ago)

to me, the possibility that a post office would blare a mix CD that i sent to someone else over the sorting room's speakers would negate any anger i had at the package being stolen.

Felcher (Felcher), Thursday, 23 October 2003 20:30 (twenty-two years ago)

While "Pedal" isn't my literal last name, it shares the same first three letters

It's Pedophile, right?

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 23 October 2003 20:43 (twenty-two years ago)

US post seems pretty fcked. it can be incredibly slow. like custos says i'm on the other side of the world. if i send a package to the uk it sometimes gets there in under a week. but the states? its bloody erratic.

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 23 October 2003 21:06 (twenty-two years ago)

something IS rotten in the state of denmark.

amateurist (amateurist), Thursday, 23 October 2003 21:07 (twenty-two years ago)

it's the lutefisk.

Famous Athlete, Friday, 24 October 2003 05:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I just talked to Royal Mail, and I'm told there has been 'unofficial action' by workers, namely a strike that I hadn't even heard about. Apparently, it affects the Greenford Mail Centre, which deals with international mail. So for any of you in the UK, that's probably the reason...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 24 October 2003 08:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Check THIS out.

That was mailed to me last Thursday. Jesus Christ. I'm at a loss as to how I should confront or correct this problem.

Sarah Pedal (call mr. lee), Friday, 24 October 2003 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Getting a P.O. box wouldn't be that difficult, but the absurdity of the situation is staggering.

Sarah Pedal (call mr. lee), Friday, 24 October 2003 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah Pedal, indeed, I owe you a disc. No one's tampering. I just haven't sent it yet.

scott m (mcd), Friday, 24 October 2003 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

this thread title makes me picture some dude sitting there tampering with your mail, occasionally making threats to trade CDRs with you

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 24 October 2003 14:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay, for future reference, people who trade with me should address their packages to Sarah PEDERSEN.

Maybe I can avoid this bullshit.

Sarah Pedal (call mr. lee), Friday, 24 October 2003 14:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I still have 1 padded mailer left. I can swap with you, Sarah.
But I'll fix the envelope in a way that will make it easier to spot if the mailer has been opened and then resealed.

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Friday, 24 October 2003 16:37 (twenty-two years ago)

E-mail me, Custos.

Maybe if I flood them with packages, they'll lose their momentum and start actually giving them to me.

Sarah Pedal (call mr. lee), Friday, 24 October 2003 16:44 (twenty-two years ago)

sent.

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Friday, 24 October 2003 16:51 (twenty-two years ago)

(email, I mean.)

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Friday, 24 October 2003 16:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Gotcha, Sarah.
Will begin compiling now.

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Friday, 24 October 2003 17:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay. Your package has been sent...and made marginally trickier to tamper with. (Check your email for details.)

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 18:59 (twenty-two years ago)

two years pass...
Now the spam has been deleted it looks weird that this has been revived.
so i'll ask..
Did sarah ever receive her parcels?
Unless she changed her name, I haven't seen her around for years.
