What to do to recently bought CD's when you don't have the time to store them right away in your collection?

Serious, I'm getting crazy with this shit. I have at this moment 4 piles of 50+ cd's on top of my cd-storage rack, and I'm fearing the day when it all comes crashing down... but I really don't have any other place to put them nor time to rearrange my collection to store them! How do you cd-buying-frenzy people deal with this (without using holidays from work to get some spare time)?

without using holidays from work to get some spare time

...& I thought I was the only one that did this (I'm buggered if I'm wasting a weekend tidying up!).

One way is to replace your jewel cases with plastic envelopes - I do this when going on holiday. Of course it's crucial to keep them in order if you do this. There's also the option of getting rid of ones you don't listen to, although the last time I tried this, I sold them to a record shop & bought a load more on the spot.

Depends how you organize your collection - but organize the 200 that you have on your desk the same way. (e.g. Put all the klezmer together an alphabetize, put all the "male vocal stylings" together and alphbetize, etc...) It'll make it easier to eventually put them into your collection in small increments... put all the "R"s in one day, next week, put in all the "I"s and "K"s .....

..Not that I do that myself .. I have a huge stack on my dining room table right now. But that's how I might do it if I weren't so damn lazy.

I have a carusel CD rack that holds 675 discs (w/ box sets stacked on top) and that's all i allow myself to have on the "A" list. It's tough finding what to weed out to make space, but it ensures a pretty high bar to make the cut. I still dig back in the storage boxes on regular occassion for review of lost treasures and "tired" favorites -- i just know what i'd if the whole collection was available in one space. I do the same with the "A" space i have for 400-500 LPs, too. Then again, nowadays i'm only seeing a half-dozen or so new titles per month so it ain't so tough to keep up.

i have a wee rack on top of the stereo cabinet. it has recent stuff on it. i keep looking at it first, before i choose something to play. its fulla stuff i don't really wanna hear.

They sort've wallow in a de facto "new aquisition" pile (or piles) in front of the stereo before I go make room for them. Trouble here is there's no real rhyme or reason to how long they'll stay there. I still have certain discs dating back to January that haven't made the leap to the shelves yet, and it's not because I'm too busy still playing the fuckers.

lolol... wouldn't trust her to let her touch on my cd's...

Thanx Dave, that's a nice suggestion; it shouldn't take too long and it would make the job of incorporating the recent stuff into the rack easier.
I've normally let some space open between letters for new acquisitions, but it gets filled in no time... ;) The ones piled up date back to June, I guess, so you see that the size of the piles increase very quickly.....
